Windows XP problem.

Original Post
I installed XP Pro a while back. Then I reinstalled it because I couldn''t fix a few annoying errors. Now, when I start my PC, I have to choose between Windows XP Pro or Windows XP Pro (Original). I tried to go to Add/Uninstall Programs to uninstall the prev XP Pro, but it wasn''t there.
Is it because I have a checkpoint saved before I reinstalled it?
Anyway to fix this?
Thanks.

I''m guessing it''s because you probably reinstalled without formatting your drive. Off the top of my head, I''m not sure exactly how you''d fix that, but somewhere you can reinstall the boot loader. Don''t remember exactly where, but I''m sure if you search google or help files, you''ll find out how.

I think before I reinstalled, my drive was not an NFT type. Then I changed to NFT. (Or was it NTF?)

You mean NTFS?
It looks that when you reinstalled, you didn't install over the previous instalation, but on a different directory - if that's the case:
Look for a file named boot.ini on the root directory in your C: drive (you may have to uncheck hide system files in the folder options) -if you edit it with notepad, you should see a couple of lines under [operating systems] with both of your windows instalations - removing a line will stop showing it on the boot menu. You also, you should just be able to delete the _original_ windows directory, if you are sure you don't have anything there you might need. Also not that this won't get rid of files under the documents and folders and program files that were put there by your previous windows instalation - you probably should boot into your previous installation, uninstall all programs, and only then get rid of the windows directory.
Hope that helps - couple of extra warnings - obviously deleting the wrong windows directory will be bad (tm), and deleting the wrong line in boot.ini might mean you can't boot anymore if your other instalation just isn't booting at all. Also, There might be more files from the original instalation that you're not getting rid of by doing this. Anyway, good luck...

Um, are both of your installations in C:\windows? if so, just delete the entry Windows XP Professional (original) from the boot.ini file, and you should be fine, or delete it out reguardless if your "Windows XP Professional" works.
EDIT:
If it is in the same directory, then it doesn't take up extra space, if your second install is in something else, ex C:\WINNT, then you can get rid of the folder that contains the original XP, but only if you didn't install your new install over the old one in the same directory! I hope this helps.

That really should be your solution to edit the boot.ini file removing the redundant entry.
