Particle Effects Tutorials ?

Hi guys, Are there any good tutorials on particle effects ? I made my own little system where I make a random number of particles (from 6-10) then give them random directions then have them use different bitmaps as they travel and fade away. Is that the basic idea ? It looks pretty cool but I''d probably be better off reading some tutorials. Thanks.

http://nehe.gamedev.net/ tuturial 19 is about particle engines. Didn´t read it but I guess it´s a good start for you.

Yes, that''s basically what a particle system is. You can get into more advanced things like adding in gravity effects and different things like fountains, smoke, explosions, etc. Basically it all comes down to bitmaps moving around and blending.
