This is more of an opinion poll than a thread for debate. The subject (if you hadn''t guessed from the thread name) is steroids. What is your opinion on steroids? What do you know about them? How much of your knowledge on steroids comes from popular media rather than independent research? If your goal was to gain strength/size, would you consider using anabolic steroids to help reach these goals? Do you agree that the government should be inhibiting personal steroid use, and prosecuting those who use them? What do you think the legitimate uses of steroids are (if any)?

Steriods, among other things, are used in the treatment of asthma. They shouldn''t be abused like most drugs but there is always people that need to be saved from themselves.

legitimate uses of steroids for steroids are imo medical uses. The stuff is not only produced for mucsel hungry body builders.

If i wanted to get more strenght? I would not want to use them
If i wanted to get taller? hmm maybe it would come in my mind if i was 120cm long

Look up the German female swim team and learn about all the problems that arose from their rampant steroid abuse (not that the athletes were at fault. They probably didn''t even know what drugs the government was giving them). Many of them were left sterile or had children with birth defects. It''s scary that the side effects of the steroid abuse did not end in their generation, but their children are having to suffer the consequences as well. I''m sure the results were exaggerated because of women using them instead of men, but there are side effects.

In my opinion, you shouldn''t fuck around with nature like that. Your hormones are there for a reason and manipulating them to make yourself look better doesn''t seem right. You''re also likely to suffer side effects, both physical and psychological.

yes people get sideffcts if they misuse that sthff like in the east-german swimming team. i am sure that treatment which they gave those people, would make doctors unconscius if they saw it

Corticosteroids, extremely powerful anti inflammatory drugs, can actually save lives, even yours. Imagine drinking a soft-drink in summer, and accidently, you swallow a bee or wasp that was in the can (happens more often than one might imagine). Without a quick corticoid injection, you''d be dead.

But using steroids in sports, eg. to increase muscle mass, is plain stupid and very dangerous. On the other hand, it''s your own decision. If someone wants to ruin his body, let him go for it.

and then make the public pay for treatment?

I don''t think that the impact would be that large, considering the rather small amount of cases in the population. If you want to ban the free use of ''popular'' drugs, then start with tobacco and alcohol abuse, because those are seriously harming the medical security networks.

Well, I don''t say that steroids should be freely available for everybody, at the drugstore around your street corner. They should be restricted to controled usage under qualified medical supervision. But I don''t think that totally outlawing them would help - people will just get them on the black market instead (already happens, btw).

im with Yann on this one. (Did i just say that?)
I think their use should be banned from professional sports but should be legal for adult public use, otherwise they''ll just be dealt in the blackmarket as they are today, and frankly a bunch of what you get in the blackmarket are cut with impurities that make them even more dangerous.

The problem in professional sports is that most athletes (hockey, football, baseball, bodybuilding, boxing, etc) take steroids anyway, so banning them from the sport accomplishes nothing, other than forcing the athletes to take steroids with shorter half-lives, so as to make them more difficult to detect.

It's not necessarily dangerous to take steroids if you have medical supervision. And the guy on the pictures in this thread, although he uses steroids, the ugly "muscles" you can see on the pics are actually oil injections. This is what happens if you inject too much(the same man greg valentino):

dont inject this much

Also here is a picture of him with his girlfriend :

im not trying to start an argument but i have to completely disagree. In the NCAA if you''re suspected of doping you get tested every week and randomly twice a month(6 times a month every month), you can''t dope under that scrutiny. the problem with professional sports are their all powerful unions dictate the terms by which a player can be tested, and they intentionally build loopholes into it to evade testing. Its not that you cant stop doping in professional sports, its that the players union doesnt allow you to.

i have also read sometimes steroid forums (not that one).

the most funny of those people are really the ones who inject them selves way too MUCH testosteron.
Thos people apparently ignore that if someone has too much of those hormones the body changes that into womens hormones > muscle person has more womens hormones than many women together > breasts :D

My Opinion:
Taking something like that is about as smart as spitting in the wind.

True, the player''s unions are a factor, but imho the biggest factor by far is quite simply the logistics of the matter. Testing one or two athletes who are under suspicion at a time is one thing, but testing every *single* athlete for every *single* type of steroid at the same time, is an entirely different thing. The costs in such an endeavor would be astronomically high, and quite frankly, no one would be willing to foot that bill.

Because, after all, who wants to watch a hockey game where half the team is out for the season from sustained injuries that won''t heal fast enough, without the aid of anabolic drugs?

Steroids arent bad...

I got a cortisone injection a few weeks ago after my elbow started to swell and basically locked up.

As for using it for bodybuilding, it hardly seems neccessary. Look at all the "strongmen (ie Eugen Sandow)" of the early 1900''s. They were frikkin huge but of course didnt use steroids.

i didnt say i was against there use, just against there use in pro sports, the only reason being if you allow them in pro sports then in order to be competitive most everyone(George Larraque being the exception) would have to use them. A bunch of people that try out for Spec Ops in the armed services juice up as much as they can.
