I need a little help with my HTML. My site is www.angelfire.com/games5/diablovault. In making the table, I set the two side parts to 20% and the middle to 60%, but it does not seem to fill the screen for some reason. Also, the border refuses to show up when vertically resized, as shown on the left side vs. the right side.
Can anybody here help me? Btw, nebody here play Diablo?
The widths in the columns are relative to the table, not the page. If you want the table to fill the page, you need to add width=100% to the table tag. Might want to include a closing tag for your table while you''re at it.
GAH! Why does everybody use the <table> tag like the <layout>. The Table tag is for posting tabular data. Using it for a layout is like making a poster to a school dance in a Microsoft Access report.
It appears you have some knowledge of CSS, so making a Div/CSS based layout is not too much for you to do.

CSS is fine and dandy, frankly, I love it
Tables are just easier for simple layout stuff. Give the n00bs a break and just tell them "You can do that with CSS" when they ask a question.

They break many screen readers too.

Explain to me the portions of the OP''s site that could not be done with div nostyle="float:left."
Not only does Div/CSS make a site more standard, it also makes the code a lot cleaner and easy to read. About the only thing one needs to worry about are the version 4 browsers, and if anybody is still using a version 4 browser, they need to be smucked upside the head.
*shrugs*
When I was learning HTML and a little bit of CSS I never heard of "div" once. I still no nothing about it, I''ve only heard of it by reading through source code. Then again, I don''t have any problems using tables.
Errr, and my point, yeah I had a point somewhere... hmmm... oh yes! Perhaps he doesn''t know what a "div" is?

gamechampionx: don''t let DakeDesu discourage you from using Tables, using them is perfectly fine for layout.
Other than that it produces extremely messy code, and is an unstandard use of tables.
Using tables for layout is perfectly fine in a manner, that bogo search is a perfectly fine sorting algorythem.
While tables were never designed for layout, they have proven themselves useful. Tables only become stringy and messy when the programmer does not know how to use them properly. The annoying thing about CSS, is that every browser will things differently, without care in creating the sheet. While this is also true for tables, it is easier to get a table to look correct on all browsers than a sheet is (or at least I find.) However, whatever you use, make it liquid! Liquidness should be the real point of any layout.

1) Look at the OP.
2) using them as layout is not a propper use of them.

I do not know why people keep saying this. I just make a CSS stylesheet, and run it through W3C''s validator, and a good portion of the time, they will not look that horribly that different in different browsers. Take my website for example (dakedesu.gamedeveloper, net) It uses the exact same stylesheet no matter what browser views it. And it looks pretty much the same in all browsers (tested with Mozilla-firebird, Mozilla, IE, and Opera).
I have never had a problem displaying correctly done CSS in any browser, other than the 4.x browsers.

Here, I agree.

But, if you *need* pixel perfect sections of your layout, you''re in for a rougher time.
But like you said--make it a liquid layout, and you won''t have that problem.
Liquid layouts can still have pixel perfect portions.
If you want a pixel perfect layout, use Postscript--html is not equipped (well enough) to deal with it. However, Postscript was designed with the pixel perfect idea in mind.
I have never understood why somebody would want a pixel perfect layout, but then I am not exactly Van Gogh with HTML/CSS.
Unless ECMAscript, ActiveX, SSI, or any serverside shows up... no.

Thanks for the help guys. I was able to make the table fill the whole screen, so that problem is solved.
However, in making the border on both sides of the page, I'm still having trouble. I tried using
to make it fill the column horizontally, but the image just doesn't show up, as seen in the left column. Also, when adjusting width, what is the percentage of? Is it the screen or the table?
Thanks again. Btw, neone here play Diablo?

You may want to add a height attribute to the image tag as well, or at least try adding it to help locate the problem.

If you ever work at a web design company, or learn about design more, you'll understand what I'm talking about. I hardly think that postscript is a suitable alternative to HTML.
