Problems with scanner

Original Post
Alright, I''ve got an UMAX Astra 2000U scanner. Now, before you all go "why the crap did you buy that pice of crap?", it was a gift.
Now, up until 3 months ago, it was working properly, all well and good, until it just ceased to function. It actually thinks that the scanner isn''t even there. This pisses me off to no extent.
Whenever I refresh the software to scan for the scanner, it says that it isn''t hooked up. Now, normally, I would chalk this up to a driver or a port conflict, but this is a USB scanner and it is the only USB hardware I use on this computer. Has anyone ever had this problem before?
I tried to re-install the drivers, but the CD is nowhere to be found, and UMAX, being the whores that they are make you pay to download the latest drivers.

Could it be your USB port is faulty?
Doubt it. all checked out on my regular systems check last week.

You''ll need to find your scanner CD.

I had this same problem. It turned out it was a USB power supply issue caused by the motherboard. The scanner was (cleverly) taking its power from the USB port, but the motherboard had a crappy VIA chipset and wasn''t up to the job. I''ve since changed motherboards and my scanner works fine now.

May as well get a new motherboard I guess. But this has an external powersource, making it a bit odd that that could happen.

Then the world is still safe...unless Pouya can find his scanner CD.
I still have a digital camera, I can do this the hard way7.

From reading APC''s post I gathered it was working just fine with his motherboard previously.
APC, is there any way you can isolate the time the scanner stopped working? If you can think of any changes to your computer you did around that time. Something might have messed the scanner up. Sadly if this is the case a driver re-install is pretty much your only option unless you have a backup or some other restore method from before you made the system changes.
( Assuming problem is in software )
Corrupt Driver ? ( Run File Checker, Scandisk )
Not loading driver ? ( What''s in Device Manager ? )
Get Windows to write another Bootlog.txt to see what''s loading. But first backup the old one.
Can you have Windows auto detect ?
Find the name of the driver if you can.
