Anyone know if AOE used tiles, hexagons, or some other type of representation? Maybe I can base my engine on something like that AOE uses and see how it works. ----------------------------- A wise man once said "A person with half a clue is more dangerous than a person with or without one."

I am currently playing AoE II and i was reading through the documentation and it is constantly refering to Tiles when it talks about that aspect of the game so I would assume it is tile based

AoE uses tiles. to give the illusion of height, they use slanted tiles. if you poke around the net, you should be able to find resources that allow you to extract the images from AoE''s .slp files.

AOE uses isometric tiling and that book you''ve just is not for newbies. Generally, it discusses on how to build your own engine.
