Crayons and gluesticks and construction paper, ohh my. I have already drawn a portrait (with a single blue crayon, everyone was rationed one) of my "partner" for my _HISTORY_ class, and tomorrow for AP Government I have due ... *drumroll* A "bio-poem" Thats right folks, using a baby picture of myself, a picture of myself taken recently, and a dash of horrible death (gay fill in the blank poem), I will be able to pass the AP test. Or so I hope .... I am tired of being treated like a cretin. I am tired of watching my teachers make math mistakes when they are "teaching". I am tired of people that are too old to listen, and just continue to spew bullshit out of their mouths. Enough complaining, but truthfully what are your experiences with these kind of things? And will it end once I graduate and go to college?

What do either of those things have to do with the subject you have them in? Goddamn teachers need to learn to fucking teach.

From my experiances in school (public), the bullshit to good teachers ratio goes down the farther you go.

Yes, so far I have only come across one (1) teacher in high school that hasn't done bullshit like Reindeer has descriped. He quit because our administrators are jackasses, though.

You aren''t in an IOP class are you? Or are you in Elementary?

This seems like some quite strange assignments to me (unless you are in an IOP or Elementary class).

He''s in an AP class, so I assume that he''s in high school...

This stuff makes me ill. Teachers complain about how dumb we are, then turn around and hand out crayons.

If I''d been ballsier back then, I''d have questioned it publicly.

*little punk RenderTarget raises his hand*
"Yes, Mr. Target?"
"I have a question about the educational value of my cornflower blue rendition of Mary, here."
"Yes, what''s your question?"
"Is there any?"
".."
"See, I''m going to college soon. It''s a university, with big buildings and real professors. They might expect me to know something."
"... Well, that''s a very nice portrait."
"You''re not listening."
"All good boys go to heaven."
"I hate you."
"I like pie."

I went to school woefully unprepared to do real work.

I like pie.

Haha some funny stuff goes on in my comp-sci class:

Teacher: "WHY IS YOUR SCREEN YELLOW!?!"
---
Teacher: "I dont know what this is. It has phone jacks in the back of it though."
---
Teacher: "We can't get to the c:/ prompt; they disabled it."
Me: *Goes to start->Run->cmd*
Me: "Yes!"
---
My friend: "Do we get to learn 3-d?"
Teacher: "Um...the monitor is an x/y axis..."
---
Teacher: "I think \r stands for return to the beginning"
---
Kid next to me: "OMFG PROGRAMMARS!"
---

I sit with a hot asian chick though so its ok.

Anyway that sucks. I actually managed to get pretty good teachers this year, ones who can actually teach (except comp sci). They actually EXPLAIN the stuff instead of 'hey poppets do this worksheet and read chapters 1-12, test tommorow'. I think I might actually be able to pull off straight A's this year.

Edit: Too many horzontal rules look ugly.

My physics teacher is the worst of all.

She is the kind of person that can treat any unit of measurement, nay ANYTHING, as it were an animal capable of a complex decision process.

She talks about "nanos" like they are some sort of furry mammal, and how she really isn''t concerned with whether our measurement of them is even close because "nanos are tricky and they are tough to see, and I am getting too old to focus on every little detail".

NOT THAT WE CAN MEASURE NANOMETERS WITH A RULER

But I learned alot, like that the y-axis of a graph is typically the vertical one, because if you say "y" very exaggeratingly, your mouth is somewhat vertical. And I suppose the pronuciation of "x" makes your mouth horizontal, but I have never tried it. I still am stuck on getting the "y" pronunciation correct.

Your all damn lucky to even have com sci.. why, because my damn school can't find a teacher to teach! Also com eng is also cancelled too. I mean what the hell is that all about. So one old guy retires, does he have to tear down the whole tech department?

Bah, last years com sci class whas shit. The teacher didn't know anything about C and I had to go around and answer lame questions about, missing commas and misspelt variables and the usual, can you do this for me?

Bah, damn public school systems... screwed my last year of highschool!

With that said, I feel much better now...

*O, and all of my other teacher was cool. (damn lack of tech school I go to *shakes fist*)

Technically it does it is the escape character for carriage return, which on Windows systems, tells the program to go to the beginning of a line. Normally used with \n, which tells the computer to push all current lines on the screen up one line. Macintoshes have carriage returns automagickally start a new line, and Linux/BSD/System V systems automagickally go to the beginning of the line when given \n.

After reading this thread, I am now glad I live in Alberta, a province of Communist Canada. Sure our Education system is not the best... but... it... could be a lot worse.

(but don''t use my apparent lack of spelling and grammer ability prove me wrong, I am not the one doing the "Biopoem.")

Not publis school, but I was taking my first C++ class in college this past Spring. I''d been using C++ for at least 2 years. When the professor introduced the class to ''new'' he almost completely skipped over ''delete''. He would never have mentioned it if I hadn''t brought it up. When I asked about it, he said "I''ve never used delete before."

I know. It was still slightly amusing though.
She was mystified by that yellow screen...

Wah no console colors either , NT based operating systems only use ANSI.SYS for legacy apps.

We''re not even going to learn classes until much later...she thinks we''re all too dense to understand.

While I do not entirely disagree here, you must note, you are probably a lot more advanced than most of the students there. Ask some of the other students about Reference Based Memory Management, various object file protection schemes against null pointers, and linking OpenGL to a project. A good portion of your class mates most likely will not understand those concepts.

Thats true, most of them wouldnt know a pointer if it hit them in the head. But still, I wish she would teach us how stuff worked and WHY it did what it did. We''re doing java *gasp*, and instead of explaining what an object is, and what the main function is for, she told us to memorize the lines of code. The hot asian next to me told me she knows how to do it, but not why, or what its for.

I''m not sure if that is the best approach....
