i have seen only one post that had a Reference to visual basic. it seems to have faded away, and i was wondering why?

For business purposes VB is here to stay. On a game development site it''s not so popular.

Why would there be posts about it? It''s pretty hard to screw something up in VB!

demonrazor2003: Perhaps because people know that idiots here almost immediately flame a poster who mentions VB?

Sailorstick: "not so popular" compare to what? C++? That''s obvious, but it is very popular with newbies, mainly because it is so easy to get something done fast.

flukus: Depends on what you''re doing. Using the API incorrectly is a quick way to screw things up.

VB is more of a bussiness language than a game programming language. That is all.

machaira: yes, i suppose so... i have had my own share of flaming and receiving flames when posting about vb''s "qualities"

in fact, i still use vb (not as in vertex buffers ), but i am staying quite quiet about it

I haven''t used VB since I upgraded to VS .NET... VB .NET looks scary, and since I wouldn''t use it much anyway I don''t think it''s worth the trouble reading up on the differences right now.

The only problem I see with VB is that it really isn''t designed to run on multiple patforms.Although, if I remember mono will allow an incomplete version of VB to be compiled and ran in linux.

Why am I seeing more and more frequent threads on how vb or [insert language of your choice here] is dying.

VB isn''t losing popularity in the least bit.

VB is the most commonly used language in business application development. Game devers use C++, and quite a few are ignorant to the rest of the programming world.

You shouldn''t say "Game programmers use C++", see, not all game programmers use C++. Just this morning a guy was using O''Caml to do graphics programming for a game. How do yah'' like them apples?

Why is that a problem? Most people can''t even get a game finished for one OS let alone multiple.

It only took me a couple days to get used to VB.NET. I''m never going back to VB6 if I can help it!

Because people are clueless?

I think the fact that it''s not as easy to make dumb mistakes in VB is one of the reasons. I don''t think it has anything to do with getting flamed, when I posted a problem I had when switching to VB .NET (the lack of default instances in .NET) no one flamed me (well, maybe someone did, I don''t remember, but 90% of the replies were helpful).

Another thing I find stupid that many people do is use C++ for everything, regardless of how much harder it is. I can understand using C++ for almost everything(I use it for most things), but there are some situations where it''s a complete waste.
