I''v been using Visual C++ 6 for quite some time now, and I was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to something newer? What choises do I have? (I''d like to continue using microsoft compilers)

Stick with VC++ 6. It suits your needs fine.

I've been thinking about replacing VC 6 too, mainly because of bugs and failure to correctly implement the C++ spec. However, I need the optimising compiler and I can't justify spending shedloads of cash on the full VC.net pro (even the academic edition).

BTW, Senses, I'm with APC on this: it's not worth upgrading just because there's something newer. If VC6 works for you then stick with it.

That was my feeling for a long time, but, like I said, it has been a long, long time that I have been using it.

I''ll probably stick with it some more, seeing as how it really hasn''t failed me or anything. But... its so old .

How good are the optimizations on VC 2003 .NET?
