IMO no Java book oriented towards game programming is new enough, especially since many things in Java gaming changed just recently. Java game programming is only superficially different from other languages, those superficial differences are easily learned from tutorials and looking at samples.

"Java 2D Graphics" by Jonathan Knudsen is a good reference on Java 2D. Java 2D doesn''t change much, if at all, so the fact that the book''s a few years old pretty irrelevant. Java 2D can be used to write games (although it''s tough), but more importantly you''ll use bits and pieces of java 2d in just about any game.
