I was watching a thing on the history channel about the supposed Bible Code, which supposedly is frighteningly accurate, and appearently the world is supposed to end in 2012. Sound familiar? That's the same year the Maya calendar is supposed to predict (I'm surprised the show didn't mention that, actually). Strange, huh? [edited by - cowsarenotevil on September 7, 2003 10:40:46 PM]

BTW, anyone know of a program that looks things up in the Bible Code (I doubt it, since it''s not in english)? I want to search for my name

WOW! A new development!

Anyways Bible Code has been known to be error prone--so unless they give you a way to verify it yourself, do not believe it. And even then, only go by the original Hebrew and Greek translations of the bible.

The Bible Code is not "error prone"; it''s pure fiction and imagination. Here is a nice example of why.

I never said it was new... the Mayan calendar is only several thousand years old...

Well, yeah--the link I gave more than shows that (just about every second prophecy there makes use of the term "Bible Code," or "Bible Math.").

Or maybe Moby Dick is just a message from the Lords and Ladies.

I'm surprised that people aren't generating random strings of characters the length of the bible, xoring it with the bible's text, and finding the meaning of life.

And I saw the program as well - it specifically mentioned one guy using the 'code finding' methods on moby dick and finding the same kinds of things that people are finding in the bible.

Did that website with all the word manipulation stuff remind any one of Doctor Nash in "A Perfect Mind"?

Yeah, I''m not saying I believe it, but it''s rather surprising they return the same year... I need to figure out how they made those codes though, I missed the beginning of the show, do they explain it?

cowsarenotevil: Yes but I have almost no memory and I didnt pay much attention to the specifics so I could be completely wrong.
From what I understood, they pick two numbers. The first number is how often to take letters (so 1 would be every letter, 2 every other, 3 every third, etc), then they place them in a ''matrix'' with the number of columns being the second number. Then its a word search and they look for related terms near eachother (though the letters neednt be adjecent as long as the spacing is equal).

I wish there was a simple program that would let me search through on of the matrices based on any text. Anyone know of one(preferably free)? If not, once I figure it out more entirely I''m going to write one.
