Hi, I''m working on an image -> 3d scanning program, and the results are going well thus far. What I''d like to know is are there any ways to use the 3d Gfx card to cheat at polygon and volume intersections for the creation of a 3d object? and if I can''t get the 3d geometry, could I at least use the card for some realtime visualization (for aiding the user when they''re choosing the virtual camera placement around the to-be-generated 3d object.) I''m not up on the maths of calculating this, and I''m really looking for a quick fix to see how well my software/algorithms perform. Thanks in advance, -Michael

My next step, if this won''t do what I want, is to recreate the object based off of a voxel representation, then find the surface and create some triangles from the 3d points found.

I''ve got it in my head, just haven''t converted it to code yet (it won''t be hard.) The advantage of this is that I could feed any 3d object into this and create a sampled, lower resolution mesh.

I could also give previews (if it''s quick enough) of the intersections using a lower resolution voxel grid.

Maybe not even convert to mesh in the preview, but just use splatting ala point sprites.
Hmm... might want to find the edges first so not to have many layers of overdraw.

I await responses regarding the original question,
-Michael
