Original Post
If you don''t have more than 30 minutes of time (in addition to reading this post) to spare or you don''t have either a set of (good) headphones or quality speakers (and in the latter case the ability to turn up the volume of the sound), there isn''t much point in reading this thread on.
If you do have the necessary equipment and are interested in comparing your hearing to that of the others here, here''s what to do:
Go here and download the PCABX software for your favourite operating system.
Run it.
Then go here, scroll down till you see a table and download a few pairs of samples, save them on your HD and choose them as respective samples Sample A and Sample B in PCABX.
Click Start Test.
To listen to either of the sounds, click the giant A or B. If you want to be really fair, you''ll only listen to only one of them before taking the test.
When you''re set, click the giant X in the middle of the screen.
Now one of the sounds is played - to advance to the next trial, click either XisA or XisB (which ever you think it is) and then Next Trial. After 10 trials, click Test Over, Check Answers and jot down the numbers (and post them here). Try above trashy (Harder) quality settings and Difficult quality settings (the rest are really easy). I''ll post my results for tone quality here (I''ll take more tests later when I get home):
Trials: 10 Test: tone quality Easy Harder Difficult -------------------------------------------------- 100% 90% (finger slipped) 30%*I didn''t have good enough headphones (I actually had very cheesy ones) at school to listen to the Might Be Impossible samples and probably that''s why I lost track of the Difficult sample as well. I''ll post more number when I get home.
