Do this two look any good?? If they do, which one's better? And if they just downright suck, what can i do to improve them??

It ALL depends on context, but the second one is too gaudy, there isn''t enough room between the text and the bar, the colors are off, and the spikes'' proportions are off... so despite the flaws with the first one, its the better of the two. The background stuff (lightning? whatever it is) is not balanced nicely and is distracting. Its also not self-contained, so if it appeared in the middle of a black page for example it would look very out of place.

Out of those two I''d pick the top one ... but I don''t really like either one very much.

Lightning background = noes.

Would it look better with the lighting in the center of the piece?? If i should get rid of the lightning entirely, any ideas on what to add to the [:::]Charles Hwang[:::] ??? I added that stuff because it looked kinda empty. Any ideas???

If you must have an image made from text then try to keep it to something that "flows".

The reason the lightning looks bad is because against any background it is going to look superimposed; the lightning ends abruptly. Keep things behind your text to a contained area with no abrupt edges.

Try framing the text with your lightning effect with a few little forks going off in other directions, but have the entire image self-contained.

Thought this looked too plain...

My logo is teh r0x0rs.

Made in Photoshop a couple years ago. It''s basically "BradDaBug" typed over and over. Very simple. Anyways, maybe that''ll spark some creativity, or something.

I''d get rid of the [:::] on the sides, they make you seem like some CS clan member or something.

don't make your letters so bluppy. it's ugly. make the bump only one pixel deep and very sharp. I don't have much problems with the lightning, only I would like it better if it goes horizontally

Terrible.

You're making one of the typical logo making mistakes. The photoshop bevel effects alone make both the logos dumpster worthy.

I find that a good method for logo design is creating a background and color scheme before you even add text. Once you've got a base you like, you can add text and blend it into the picture. You shouldn't depend on 'cool' (And I use the term cool loosly) fonts to make your logo look good.

The bright orange and black blue background clashes horribly. Again, picking a color scheme before starting wil help immensely.

That lightning background might have some potential if you tweak it a little.

Cheers.

I''ll second this.

fancy fonts are the number one sign of unproffesional logos. take a look at any real logo. they''ll always use very simple fonts, or, if they use fancy fonts, they use a font specially designed for that logo, that will only look nice for their name (if you use the same letters in a different order, it will look ugly too)

Check this logo. I made it in Adobe Photoshop 7 using only 8 layers. You gotta get away from the Eye Candy plugin.. that thing has cookie-cutter graphics written all over it.

You need to start finding tutorial sites out on the net that will show you how to do various effects *without* plugins. Try as many tutorials as you can find and *then* try making your own logo.. Only once you know the possibilities of the software can you really start creating things that are exactly like what you want.

Ok, these are less clashing colors and some better stuff i think...

What do YOU guys think??

(On this one, I think the bevel and emboss accentuates the difference between background and text which makes it easier on the eyes. Or do I have an abnormal pair of eyes??)

Hmmm... it does make it easier on the eyes, but it still doesn''t look quite right. I''d say make either the fore-text lighter or the back-text darker.

Still, it''s starting to look good!

Which one should I keep and change? The first or second one? The only difference is that the second one has a bevel and emboss effect added to the text and its outline.

I vote that you continue working with the 1st one. I still think the bevel looks wierd.
