Lighting

Chris, I want to be able to light just one side of an object but I also want to keep the light falloff. If I use a point light than both sides are automatically lit. If I use a directional light, everything on the map is lit and I only want a certain area to be lit up. How hard would it be to add falloff to the directional lighting? This type of lighting could be very useful for powerrender as you could use localized direction lights. BTW I want the lights to be dynamic, so precalculated lighting wont work. Is it just me or would no one else like to see this type of lighting?

Use spotlights. They have direction and falloff.

I suppose I could. But, I really wanted to do was to attach a light to an entity that would light everything around it(only the faces that are facing it) and fade of with distance. I think to do this with spotlights I would need multiple lights per entity point out in the 4 major directions. Four lights per lighted entity would take more cpu power than one. Right?
