Hi all. I''ve started a new project, which currently has 22 members. (3d modelers, concept artists, music composers, storyline developers etc...) We have half of a story (The rest is currently being written, but so far it is excellent. We do, however, need more programmers. Anyone who has experience in C++, and knows OpenGL, or wants to learn OpenGL, then please post here. It is a freeware project, and will be similar to Breath of fire IV or Ragnarok Online. (3d maps, 2d Sprites). Thanks, -Chris

"22??? HAHA :D"

Heh. I''m not kidding about the 22. Once you join the team, you''d get to meet all of them. The ages of team members range from 15-18. The story is still under development, but here''s what we have so far:

"[Background Storyline]

The year is 507 SE, (Space Expansion) and Humanity has travelled to many galaxies and neighboring planets. For a long time now, Earth is being left by people over and over again, causing the population to die down to a mere 10 Billion.

Harnessing a new technology, Magnetic Spacial Modifiers (MSM''s), ships are capable of using certain magnetic forces to repel and draw themselves closer to various places across the universe by exhibiting a magnetic charge on their ship to initially repel from a magnetic source and attract towards their destination. This ends up saving a lot of fuel, and was initially founded by Dr. Charleston Keins in the year 2023 AD.

Not only this, but Humanity has also harnessed the power of Nuclear Fusion reactors, espescially ones particularly small enough to be a little smaller than a chest cavity of a full-grown Human. However, initially, they were a bit larger, somewhere big enough to fit in a football stadium. Much like computers though, the ability to make things smaller and more efficient has caused this to become very small.

These are probably the most important two developments in the timeframe leading up to the story. There is also the existance of superhuman people -- those Humans who have evolved. Most have stayed quiet, but others instantly became celebrities and the like. The chance of any baby being born as a superhuman naturally are around one in a billion. They are rare, but they do exist. Genetically modifying children, a questionable practice and very costly, has given others the ability to create children of superhuman quality. Nobody makes much of it, though.

However, not all of the superhuman race can read thoughts or use psychic prowess. Some naturally learn faster, are more athletic, are stronger, bigger, better, and so forth. It is merely considered the next stage of Human evolution.

In the year 508 SE, somewhere around late-Summer, hostilities began about the universe. Humans everywhere seemed to be killing eachother for almost no reason. Harnessing nuclear weapons and other weapons of tremendous destruction, people died quickly, and most people were reduced to a feudal society seeming somewhere around the early 1000''s, following the fall of the Roman Empire. All of the superhuman people died, as they were more bloodthirsty and angry for some reason. Perhaps the ability to read thoughts had triggered them to realize hostilities and the like. Most remaining people blamed them for the war.

Some places are left unscathed though. The nobility and upper-class hid in shelters in the center of the moon while things progressed. As soon as they confirmed the end of the war, they began to rebuild the moon''s civilization.

[Main Characters]

Name: Glenn Held
Age: 17
Home: Earth, West Coast America

Height: 5''11"
Weight: 152 lbs.
Weapon: Katana/Light Swords
Hair: A short and spikey blonde hair that spikes down, and has bangs.
Eye: An unnatural blue-green color, much like the color of water.
Build: Athletic, but not incredibly strong. Primarily toned. Fairly tan.

A lonely individual and a natural-born superhuman, Glenn initially has the ability to read people''s feelings, emotions, and general plans. He also has the slight ability to influence the way things occur and regularly has visions of the future in his dreams.

Glenn is somewhat of a nomad. Some people have been able to settle on Earth in some locations, but others must roam around as pirates, looting what is remaining on the planet. Glenn does his best to help people out and stays very shortly, because as soon as people realize what he truly is, they will come after him to kill him.

Glenn is a very lonely character who is misunderstood and lacking with social skills. He does what he feels is neccessary to help people out and often acts like a shoulder to just about anyone who feels sorrow. Consequently though, he gets caught up in their emotion as well and has an unmistakable pain in his own heart that rarely has time to heal.

Little is known of Glenn''s background. He was an orphan whom was cared for by various people, being passed around until he was 12. When he was 12 and his guardians died once more, he went out into the world and began to care for himself. At least once a month, he will visit a town, but more commonly once every week, as he travels.

Name: Catherine LaMonte
Age: 18
Home: Moon Colony

Height: 5''7"
Weight: 121
Weapon: Whip/Flail
Hair: Brown
Eye: Green
Build: Athletic, but pretty normal. Pretty thin, with an average bust.

Catherine was born into a rich family that sheltered itself away for hundreds of years in the moon. The family spent about 400 years in stasis and the last 100 were spent in the colonies of the moon.

Catherine is a normal human. She''s used to getting whatever she wants and various servants to escort her places and do what she needs. Don''t mistake this for a weakness, because she does enjoy going to do things by herself and has commanded some power. She''s an excellent manager, but often keeps to herself what she really feels.

Deep inside, she feels hurt, worried, and confused by the events that progress. She merely keeps a cool to pretend that she''s okay so nobody else gets worried when she''s in lead. She''s had a few boyfriends in the past, but all were too snobby. Unable to use that as an excuse, she found various other things to blame them for.

[Mechs]

Name:
Pilot: Glenn

Height: 21.3 meters

A somewhat different mech, the color scheme is primarily white, dark blue, (almost like a blue-violet for those of you who remember crayons!) and lastly, a red. The white is the primary color, while red is used sparcely, and the blue is somewhere in between. This mech uses a large ''cutter,'' which looks to be almost like a flourescent light. A bracketed blade forms a beam of light between it, a more stable form of the ''beam saber'' that is so commonly used. This mech should look notably agile and dexterous. It is lighter than most medium-sized mechs and has a pretty small "X" shape on its back, apparently for nothing.

Include back stuff.

[Storyline]

500 or so years have passed since the incidents of the war... It is now 1000 SE, although the Earth has no track of what time it is.

We see a city on the moon, a colony, built into a crater from a bit of distance and it slowly zooms in. Around it are reminants of other colonies in craters, and so forth. There is a clear panelling over the lunar city that allows people to live in a pretty-much normal city. The sky, however, is black, and artificial lights are used to keep it bright. Below it are several layers of colonies, each having close to the same as the above. Obviously, the top isn''t too safe of a place compared to others, but the panelling is pretty thick and mostly safe. There is also some form of a force-barrier that maintains pressure and atmosphere, but is for the most part invisible. Most of the buildings on the colony are white, giving an almost snowy/pure look to it.

The camera centers down towards the "west" side of town, on a car that is driving on a street. The car stops in front of a fairly large building. The building is a spaceport, and resembles an airport. Immediately, we see the door open and a young woman, Catherine, and her father, step out. Her father, Duke LaMonte, also known as Beaux Lamonte, is introduced to be a pretty arrogant man who is in a position of power as one of the chief leaders of the colony. He is about 6''2" or so, with graying brown that is slicked back.

The two remain silent as they walk towards the inside. Various ''lower'' people comment that it''s "Duke LaMonte" and give attention that is unneccessary, to which he ignores like a spoiled, arrogant child, because the people are ''lower.'' He makes some comments as he and his daughter walk by. Catherine pretty much keeps her head bowed as they walk, trying not to seek much attention.

After passing through a few hallways and terminals, they eventually get to a shuttle, and the ''lower'' people are kept outside of this area by regulations. After a long silence while sitting, Catherine finally and correctly interrupts by asking what Earth is like and why they''re going there. Duke LaMonte responds that it is their birthright to rule "that" world. Catherine thinks to herself about history of what happened.

Their ship becomes ready after a little more eerie silence, and they walk to it. As they walk, the bridge connecting the shuttle to the terminal has several soldiers in it, whom all salute the Duke. The soldiers of the Moon''s aristocratic people all wear helmets that reveal only their faces... which look to be all very similar. They wear full-body suits that look more like a rough, thick rubber/plastic. These are obviously space-suits, but with armor and other things equipped, so they are standard to use -- even on Earth.

As they eventually get to their seats, which are all pretty much private in the front, Catherine asks her father about being able to join their forces. Her father looks at her puzzled, thinking she''s perhaps lost it, and stays quiet after making a one-word response, like, "Absurd," or something similar.

She then kind of falls quiet and thinks to how she wants to be adventurous and get out of the house. The camera follows her expression and thoughts, then zooms out her window (Duke is on the aisle seat) and watches the shuttle as it blasts off through a small tube that leads it safely out of the controlled atmosphere. As it leaves, also maybe note some metallic walls on the crater''s sides that are actually airlocks to allow in larger vessels. Note that the pipe that is ridden out on is actually pretty big for their shuttle. As it follows the track up, it readjusts, and the camera turns to see it flying to a very large Earth. From here, we fade out.

Another scene opens up, showing a pretty loud bar, with several people in it. One of them is covered in a tan/light brown/khaki-colored cloak that covers his head. This should look more like an Arab sand cloak, not like the typical European thing we see thieves in. This figure is sitting in the corner with legs propped up on a wooden table. Other people are about the bar, having a generally good time.

Immediately, we see the thoughts of people and their rants, and the person in the cloak shows some response to what he feels and hears. Of course, this character is Glenn. He pretty much can only detect emotion, so when they start getting angry, he''ll turn his head to watch out for them, and so forth. After a bit of this, maybe a minute or two, he''ll stand up and leave the bar as quietly as possible. At the same time, show someone come in and say something to the extent of, "One of them is among our town!" Not many people know that he was there. It is night.

As he walks down an alleyway of adobe-buildings (all very arab looking -- the people all look pretty normal, but the area looks like a desert, with some forests, etc, in the background a little ways off, and plenty of mountain ranges -- he immediately senses something coming from behind him and turns around to see nothing. Thinking he''s losing his mind a little, our silent protagonist continues walking towards his direction, to feel it again. This time, we hear the bar door open and some people to come out.

All of the people are somewhat intoxicated, with a few leader people who aren''t intoxicated. Among them is the loudmouth whom immediately grows suspicious of the ''cloaked figure.'' They start following him, and Glenn turns around, taking a few steps backwards. He removes the top-most part of his cloak to reveal his face. He asks the initial question that we all sometimes ask, "Is there a problem?" As the people get closer and closer, he begins feeling more and more of their emotions of anger.

The leaders argue about someone similar to Glenn''s appearance coming through the area. Something about the cause of the war, and Glenn attempts to play stupid. As the people approach more and more, he cannot help to hide the anxiety he feels from feeling their anger, and gives away the fact that he''s an evolved Human. The people immediately start to run after him as a mob, trying to get him. He is a bit more young than most of them, and can run pretty fast. He outruns them, and flees town, as the people chase after him, and give up as he leaves town. They say things to keep him away, the typical, "If you come back here again..." Others rally together and hop on horses and what appear to be dune-buggies, to pursue him.

As he runs, he makes it to the forest north of their before they can get to him. As he looks south, he can see them heading his way and hear them. Panicing, he''s not sure what to do and continues north, into the forest. As the people get towards the forest, they stop and say something about mutants and monsters. Of course, these things HAVE to kill the hero, because all bad guys tend to think that.

Glenn continues onward, somewhat scared, encountering a few monsters here and there. Mostly mutated creatures, but also some other monsters. Stuff that''s somewhat realistic, so no flying, talking, garbage-eating trees. More like giant squirrel monsters, with excess hair, fangs, claws, etc. The path continues north, which leads up the mountain.

As Glenn follows the trail, he gets to the end of the path to encounter a giant worm-like creature, maybe even snake. Something without limbs and a giant head with teeth. Lots of teeth. A boss battle ensues, and Glenn should be able to eventually ''stun'' it. He passes it and now it becomes a race to try and get the hell out of there and up the mountain. As he gets a little ways past the monster, which he thinks was killed, it gets back up and starts following him. Yes, another, "RUN!!!" situation.

As he makes his way up the hill, he eventually comes to a pretty sharp edge, with a ledge right below. He looks back, the monster is about 250 feet behind him, but definitely coming at full force. (roughly 30-40 mph) Using his quick thinking skills, he jumps to the ledge and ducks, and the monsters zooms over the edge, to impale itself on some trees below them. It''s stuck and for the most part... dead.

At this moment in time, Glenn feels the sudden urge to, you guessed it, sigh and reflect on what happened. This will be a moment of character development where he starts to consider what has happened to him recently and his life of being shunned. Maybe show a flashback or something here with him as a young kid being exiled from town. People in the background should say, "Well, he''ll probably die in the desert/wilderness/etc."

He stops thinking about it as he notices a burning, red object in the sky start to descend through the atmosphere. You guessed right, it''s the ship from the Lunar city. It heads east and he, being a curious individual, decides that he has to chase this "mysterious" thing. He initially imagines it to be a meteor, because nobody on Earth has tamed the skies again... Initially, he just acknowledges it''s there, but realizes something''s wrong when he can feel emotions coming from it.

Following it to the East (on the world map... yay!) he eventually gets to a ship that has landed. He stays behind foliage, etc, and watches as the people get out and they begin to setup some form of a camp. Various other containers start arriving from space, several drop ships and the like. Glenn notices they''re Human, although a bit pale. He pretty much freaks out and stays quiet to watch.

In the meantime, we see the Duke get out and start organizing soldiers to recover data on the area around them. Scientists all around note something is different and that some form of a small organism is in the atmosphere, which is highly present in Glenn, this kind of gives away Glenn, and he is forced to start running, when they notice him.

The troops draw their guns and start firing at him. Unfortunately for him, they do hit, and he passes out and the scene fades out as he passes out. Everyone notices that he took a disturbingly high amount of bullets before even falling down and being hurt, so they decide to take him with them. After all, what would have normally torn a Human to shreds made Glenn pass out.

Glenn wakes up to find himself strapped down to a table kind of thing. He is bandaged up everywhere and soldiers are about watching him as he recovers. Note here that he is probably just in his boxers, and everything else is bandaged up. Definitely no shirt on though, because his entire chest is bandaged.

One of the soldiers goes to recover someone and returns shortly after Glenn looks around quietly for a bit. When a doctor and the Duke return, they start to try and communicate. Thankfully, they all speak one unified language and there is no problem. Glenn attempts to give very short answers to the questions... "Who are you, where are you from, did people still survive, etc, etc." He is then finally asked with, "How did you survive all of those wounds?" Glenn doesn''t know, as it seems natural.

Note: This is kind of where the experience system comes into play. Details aren''t given as this will be explained later, but it explains how characters can ''level'' and other things similar. The idea is that nano-technology present on the planet (to repair it) is present in all creatures. The stronger a creature, the more nano-technology it has in it. The nano-technology repairs you, and allows you to sustain more hits, etc, and makes you stronger. So, it''s just your typical system, but with an explanation... later. They''re detecting the ''experience'' (nano-tech) in Glenn and the atmosphere. You accumulate the nano-technology by being in combat with monsters, transfusion of hits, etc.

So, when he says he doesn''t understand, they become skeptical. In the background, we see Catherine trying to see what''s going on. Glenn notices her in the background and notes similar feelings. Finding all that they possibly can right now, they decide to hold him captive. Meanwhile, as they leave, a confused Catherine enters to see Glenn. He immediately looks over to her, although he had closed his eyes as soon as the others had finished asking their questions.

The two exchange glances for a minute before Catherine asks the initial question of, "Who are you?" He responds with what he knows. He''s just a normal guy. He retaliates by asking the same question back to her, to which she finds somewhat offensive. As she snaps back at him about him being a prisoner, and he immediately flinches back the other way. After turning away from eachother, she apologizes, ashamed. He continues to face away from her and explain his existance as a curse. She starts to begin feeling some sympathy, which he recognizes and tells her not to have such for him.

Somewhat freaked out, Catherine asks him how he knew how she was feeling. He continues to face away and explains that it''s just a "feeling" he got about her. He then continues and explains that now she''s a bit bewildered and skeptical. Fearful of this, Catherine takes a few steps back and asks, "You''re one of them?" in a frightful manner, and he again, detects the emotion she is exhibiting. Afraid, she leaves, too far fanatical in her fear and starts to bolt away from their quietly.

Glenn observes his surroundings and lack of guards, and uses a little flexibility to reach into the side of his shorts. Inside is a small knife, used for rough situations. Reaching for it, he cuts himself free and quickly grabs his gear, disregarding that bandages are even covering him. Literally almost as he''s pulling his pants up and putting a shirt on and strapping that sword to his belt, he''s leaving through the backside of the tent.

As he exits through the backside of the tent, the screen fades out and then fades back in as some soldiers return to find that nobody is in the tent, obviously several hours later. Not saying a word, they run back, and the duke and doctor return. Both somewhat bewildered about the disappearance of their prisoner, the duke immediately starts blaming people and is shown as a general hothead.

The screen fades and reforms to show Glenn alone by a forest somewhere, but away from the desert, with a campfire set up for him to sleep. He is sprawled out on the ground, just starting up and thinking to himself. At this point Glenn would appropriately consider the events of the day, maybe feel a bit more lonely and hurt, and decide eventually that he can sleep on it. The screen, again fades out doing the typical ''Sleep'' song and show him in the daylight now.

The campfire is now burnt out, and it isn''t but six hours since Glenn fell asleep -- another of the abilities which he is gifted with as the next evolution. Unless it''s practical (he has a watch, which would be unlikely) don''t bother to mention this. Just another thing that I thought I would toss in. Getting up, he notices some commotion coming from the West, back where he had been held prisoner. Aside from vehicles driving around, which he of course has never seen anything of, and eventually jets that soar over him at intense speeds, causing sonic booms.

Hiding in the trees to avoid detection, he watches these things as they set out for the towns. Little to his knowledge, he''s close to uncovering something hidden away for nearly half a millenia. As he sees more of the vehicles move his way (not because they''ve seen him, but to head for areas around him) he continues into the forest, until he trips on a plant and lands on something metal beneath the dirt.

As he gets up, he is able to recognize that the metal is definitely some form of a long hatch, with a small opening (it''s cracked open) in the center, where he had actually tripped. So, he heads back towards it and looks around to notice that it is open. Being the nifty adventurer that he is, he attaches a rope with a magnet to the top piece (which will later be revealed as being used for relic-hunting, a business of general mercenary-like people who scavage the ruins in search of something of value from the past) to the roof and slides down, only to land on a bridged area above something a little bit deeper.

In this time, he''s going to be a bit confused and excited, and searches around for a way to turn on the lights. At this point, the player will control the character and move him around, until he comes to a control room that is dark and lights up as he opens it. Having a little bit of knowledge with working with computers (as a relic-hunter) he is able to turn it on and figure out what to do, which eventually allows him to activate the lights.

As the lights fire up, he steps outside to see (by where he entered) a giant mech standing, waiting to be piloted for nearly 500 years. Realizing that this could not only get some money, but possibly give him some more power to protect himself for the time being. So, he hops into the cockpit, unaware of how to pilot and sits down. Immediately, the mech detects that he is not the proper pilot and updates its records, noting that the proper pilot is dead. Immediately, it takes Glenn through a crash-course on how to pilot it, which he picks up very quickly. It''s a learn-as-you-go-type thing.

So, as he moves around a little, he sets off the boosters, and plummets through the roof, after activating his shields. Much like some ships have a ''forcefield'' around them, this mech does as well, much contrary to the typical "really strong metal" idea.
"

--Far from completion.

We do not have a website yet, we want to wait until we have some in game screenshots. We do, however, have a forum where we discuss the game, (all members are signed up) but I''d prefer to only give the link to developers. We''re still going over all the plans, writing the story, and making some test models.
Please post if you want to join.

First of all what is wrong with children? Please do leave them alone there are some quite smart and mature 15 year olds out there. And not everyone on that project is a child. Some are over the age of 25 it would seem.

Second of all why will they be humiliated? There is NOTHING wrong with trying. Hell i dont think many games would be around if people didnt try things. Infact i dont think many anythings would be around if people didnt try.

You could be 10 years old and decide to program a RPG.. AS LONG AS .. you have made PONGs and TETRIS at 8 and shooters and strategy games at the age of 9.

Having no experience whatsoever, being 15 (probably not knowing how to program) and start right there with a team of 22 (LOL?) is just insane.

And why do you need 22 team members? three to work in the game and the rest to go pick some donuts and/or clean the house? Oh, and I'm forgeting about the extras you want... do you want a development team or an army to invade Portugal???

Start small. At least you might finish something.

wow, that team is really big... but its not 22 programmers, so it shouldnt be a problem as long as you can manage everyone and keep people on task.

Good luck on the project.

Heh. The thing is, we have a few programmers who are good with C++. We just need 1-2 more. I have experience - I've made a few 2D rpgs, had 4 years in VB, and am making an RPG Maker. I have also been doing C++ for the last while, and am learning OpenGL right now. My job is to direct the game, do some coding, and keep all the team in gear. And, it doesn't seem like anyone here is interested

Thanks kooktroop I don't think you other guys around here have seen the work of 15-18 year olds before. Not every 15-18 year old is still making snake 4-5 years later.

Now please, I'm just asking for anyone who would be interested. You don't have to go on about how this project will not work, because when it does, I will be posting here

I didn''t say that because I have something against them. I belong in the same age group myself.

> Second of all why will they be humiliated?

Every time a project goes up in flames, something inside you dies.

> There is NOTHING wrong with trying.

Hey! I didn''t say that! I just think that your project should be scaled to your abilities.

Blah, blah, we hear this every time someone who just got their "Hello, world!" app to run decides to make the 4DMMORPG/RTS/Adventure game of the millenium. Doesn''t fly any more.

Also, the fact that you got overtly defensive says something about your maturity. Good luck, you''ll need it.

Hi, I am Lieven van der Heide, and I think I want to join your team. I know c++ very well, and I know both DirectX and OpenGL. I am 18 years old.
However, as you see, some people here doubt your abilities to make a game, so I want to know a bit more about the team, especially, how well it's lead. please give me some more info about that. if you want me to join, please contact me at lieven@quasar3d.nl
