Anybody played it. Is this thing the real thing, if you know what I mean? I played it to the point where you had to make the phone call - since I''m in Europe I feel really reluctant to make a phone call to the US.
IF YOU DON''T WANT SPOILERS, FOLLOW THE CLICKERSON AND DON''T READ ON
Otherwise, the quest seemed pretty interesting (well, partly because stuff like that compels me). I''m not saying this particular quest was the best one I''ve read about/seen a movie being made about, but it certainly deserves a thumbs up for being mostly net-based and at a couple of points I actually had to sit down, take out a piece of paper and a pencil and try crack the thing (one particular puzzle was the one where you had to rearrange the 5 rows - it took me a good halfhour to figure out ). Anyways - has anyone followed this quest to the end and knows what this is really all about? I couldn''t really figure it out because of the stupid phone call... If anyone reaches that stage and makes the call, I''d appreciate them emailing me what they were told - it''d be interesting to get the next gate open...

What? You have to look in the book to get an account number?! CHEAP!

I was having fun too. You don't find many good games like this these days.

Edit: Heh heh, I love Google. As for the phone number, that's still a long distance number for me. Fun puzzle anyways. Nice diversion for a few minutes!

Edit some more: BTW, anyone actually read the book? Any good?

I havn''t read it, but my dad liked it quite a bit.

I read digital fortress by the same author. He kind of skimped on some technical terms, but every other part of the story wasn''t bad. It was far from the best book I''ve ever read, but keep in mind the author is known for the da vinci code, not digital fortress.

I''m on the phone number now, I''m calling it.

On a sidenote, I figured out the parchment part, thinking that is what I was supposed to be solving... now I think this thing all leads up to a clue to solving the parchment... which I just solved without a clue. Kinda sucks ^^

I solved it, yep, it was the same code that I actually cracked before without any help. Except the last 4 digits (they would have been impossible).

Interesting, but not THAT interesting

Thanks senses for the clickerson - I can now continue it. And yeah - I guess you can''t really make something like this (being net-based and all) too interesting.

I played up to the auction and got a little stuck after that. I''m going back to it later... About time I found an online game that challanged me.

Spoiler, I guess, sort of, not really:

So, what's the phone message at the very end say? I don't feel like getting long-distance charges just to find out.

This is quite cool! I finished it without any help. The only things I looked up were the messages on the phones. I''m in The Netherlands. I''m not going to call new your, but I found a good forum that hides all the spoilers so you can just peek at what you need.

Took me about an hour in total. Quite good. I hope someone will make a better one, but without the commercial stuff. Just for fun

I hope this works: The text is hidden in the background between the two horizontal bars, drag your mouse to select the text so you can see:

The message at the end is a tape recording from the author congratulating you on finishing the puzzle. For the first 1000 people the ending was different (or so it's written somewhere). They were able to leave their name and phone number. One of them was selected to play the main character in the author's next book.

Good luck!

I''d love to try making one, but I don''t really want to spend $$$ on real domain names for people to go to. Although maybe if it were popular enough you could have real ads on the pages and it''d support itself. Domain names are fairly cheap these days (as long as they aren''t taken).

What''d be cool is if REAL sites would participate. Like, instead of going to those fake auction sites, you went to eBay or something like it.
