i know this probably belongs in the Directx board, but this one seems busier and better. what would be the minimalist computer system for developing directx stuff (2D stuff, like SHilbert's kirby clone, and perhaps some 3D) in something like VC++? just cause it seems ya gotta have alot of stuff nowsadays. mattd The world is your message board. You need a computer that is reasonably fast and stable (you don't want it crashing every time you re-compile). I had a Pentium II 300 MHz with 64 mb ram until a week ago, it worked fine as a development machine. If you plan on doing OpenGL and/or D3D stuff, be sure to get a video card that works good with GL and/or D3D.

A CDRW is never wrong if you want to send in your games to a magazine or something (a CD with a cool logo on it looks nicer than 10 3.5" floppy disks ), but a CDRW is not a requirement (since you want the minimalist computer system ).

I used PSP 6 and MSVC++ 5 (learning edition) to do Kirby PC. The computer I'm using is 600 MHz, but I'm sure it could work on a much lower-end system no problem. (The only reason it can't go much lower than a 166 is that Kirby PC runs in 320x240x32bpp video mode and you need a good computer to run it.)

BTW, how long have you been an avatar, Muzzafarath?
