Cheat codes?

I guess you could have a game mode called "Slaughter" in which you could just kill hordes of oncoming enemies without doing anything to the REAL game. You could turn invincibility and infinite ammo on & off, and it would use DM/arena-like levels. That way the player could satisfy his/her desire for killing AND still experience the plot the way it should be experienced.

That doesn''t work. You should do something like what Golden Eye did, but not so extreme. And if you have cheat codes limit their power, suchas have a long code to refill your hp, instead of full invinciblity.
My opinion of cheat codes varies from games to game. Sometimes they add to the game by altering the rules. Other times they just spoil everything transforming the character into a god-like windbag without any real challenges. It''s these omnipotizing codes that just don''t make sense to leave in. In this day and age of Object-Oriontated Programming it''s easier than ever to remove these ''bug testing'' features.
In Decent II, if you use the cheat codes, these characters are suddenly introduced into the game that are capable of stealing your inventory and cheats! I remember chasing one down, blowing it up, and getting my God cheat back. It''s actually pretty fun! You still have to watch your back or you''ll suddenly become vulnerable in the middle of a slauter.

What really sucks is when the player thinks he/she is forced to use cheats because the normal game is just too damn hard! (I''ve had that experience before
)
