So what''s your longest/worst/whatever coding session? Being a fulltime gamedeveloper now I had one of my longest today. 12.5 hours( 2h coding + 0.5h break + 10.5h coding ) It''s 7am now, and I''ll be up in 5hours coding again. My brain is really turning gello But it''s because of the deadline tomorrow I made coffee at 3am and 5am.... Well, what''s your story? /MindWipe

Coding for more than 5 hours straight is pointless for me, cos I just lose concentration and make silly mistakes. An hour break and I''ll be ready for more though

Longest I have gone with straight coding, is about 10 hrs, although that is because I was an idiot and pushed my CS assignment until the last second.

How do you define coding? How can a person code for 10 hours straight unless they know what they''re doing beforehand. For instance, don''t you have to do research on NURBS math before you can implement it?

Longest I''ve ever recorded was 10 hours, like you guys, because I had an assignment due the next day.

For one project, I really slacked off, so I spent two weeks, 10 hours a day, with additional food & bathroom breaks.

God, was I burnt out, That is why I''ll never go into the game industry.

24 hours straight working on a NWN module. Most of it was because I kept hitting snags with the predefined variables in the scripting language because the help files are pretty vague in the usage of many of the functions and what not.

At least 6 hours, if only because of that one time I was in a make-a-game-in-6-hours competition. I''ve probably done 8 hours somewhere along the line.

Five days solid, with no sleep & only breaking to eat once a day, to hit a deadline.

My longest time for a single coding session was probably about... I dunno, 35 hours or something.

Last summer I was working in the game industry, usual hours were 9 or 10 hrs a day, but I came in during the last final stretches of development more or less, so we had to crunch a lot. Most of the time it was 12 hrs a day, 6 days a week.

The longest coding day I had went something like this:

- get up at 6am UK time on a Thursday
- travel to airport
- get on plane at 9am
- 1 hour flight to DK
- taxi from airport to office
- straight into a technical progress meeting
- start coding at office
- lunch at desk in office whilst discussing coding stuff
- code until 8:30pm DK time
- evening meal in office with progress meeting
- code until 4am
- break for 30 mins
- code until 11:30am
- finally check into the hotel for the first time
- sleep until 2pm
- back to office to make sure everything was ok until 6pm
- back to hotel to get drunk then sleep for a while :o)

Not as hardcore as 5 days straight (have done that with sleep breaks, but never straight), but still pretty crazy. All due to an _unscheduled_ "release quality" build of the product being required by marketing.

Wow! That is impressive... and you even got drunk at the end.

More or less; we just got some shared resources like graphics, fonts, and sound/music. The game was mostly text, but you had a full battle engine, you could wander the world map, you could make money and buy stuff from the usual shops ... wasn''t very pretty, but got the job done

Some other guy implemented a full scripting engine with some pretty good AI too, but he couldn''t finish it in time. Neither of them won a medal though (I got the Bronze ).

One of the big indie-game sites that focuses on RPGs has a regular make-an-RPG-in-a-weekend comp every now and then, but the rules are looser (and the entries a damn sight prettier ).

You guys have obvisouly not been on old-school demo parties. Especially on one, we coded for so long that I lost all concept of time. I think that must have been over 20 hours straight.

My day yesterday:

10-10:30 : code
2:20-3 : code
3:30 - 10:30 : code

Thats about a good 8 hours or so.

I absorbed enough radiation from my dual 19" monitors to cook a hot dog...

My head(behind the eyes) still hurts, and i had to sleep with one of those lunch-box coolers in my pillow.
