Black Widow...

I read somewhere that Black Widow venom is unlikely to kill a healthy adult human.
Just squash it with a book, or use bug spray, etc.

Black Widow bites really aren''t as lethal as they''re touted to be. A single bit probably won''t kill ya, but it sure as hell will make you sick and send you to the hospital. Sweet dreams

Move to New Zealand... we have one posionous native spider (katipo, tiny), who''s bite leaves you with all of a little ichy spot. And a white tail, who I think is imported... they only leave a small red bite mark too.

No snakes either...

I know that a black widow''s poison can kill. But the poison takes such a long time that it usually doesn''t, however, you start feeling the effects of it (fever, vomiting, nose bleeds, nausia, stomach cramps, muscle pains) almost immediatly. Another spider, more lethal than the black widow, a brown recluse I believe, has the same effects, but the poison is much quicker and you don''t feel the effects untill it''s pretty much too late.

I would kill the damn thing if I could control my body around spiders... I just freeze whenever they are near me, I can''t physically move. I am a bonafied arachnaphobe.

They''re hard to kill. I had one hiding underneath my car. I spray painted it, sprayed it with WD-40... didn''t matter. Then I smashed it with a brick. That did it.

I was just about to post a thread about phobias, but decided against it. Once you realize that most spiders on earth just aren''t lethal, you just don''t care. I don''t even bother to kill them anymore.

I heard once that a daddy long legs venom is actually more lethal than a black widows... it''s just that there teeth or whatever aren''t long enough to pierce human skin.

you''re not going to die if you get bit. My friend got bitten by a black widow last spring, he was just under the weather for a few days. Take some anti-venom and you''ll be fine.

Where do you live?

I''m glad I''m not in your situation, but my advice is this:


Get a long pole, attatch it to the jersey, walk, SLOWLY with that thing untill you are outside or in an open area. Throw jersey on ground, wait for spider to come out (it will, and if it doesn''t, shake the jersey with the stick just a little), when it does come out, SMASH IT WITH A LARGE BOOK. To protect your book, put a few sheets of paper underneith it.

If, by chance, the Black Widow falls out while you are walking it, you are still at an advantage because you can drop the pole and smash it while it is out. (just walk in open areas). But try and get it outside, its much easier to kill outside on the asphault or what not, as there are not cracks for it to hide in.
