Ok, I want to move the Eternal Lands website, to a professional hosting. I made some calculations, and we will need about 50-100 GB/month transfer. Most of the webhosts offer only 5-20GB, so I found some that offer more (50, or unlimited). Any normal person would expect that what they advertise is true, right? But no, they all want to rape you. They do NOT allow software, or copyrighted music on your website! WTF, if I am paying them money, I actually want to be able to put whatever I want on my web account, as long as it is legal. Some companies offer you 50 GB/month, but wait, that''s a thing in their ToS, you are not allowed to exceede 1.7 GB/day. WTF is that? I want 50 GB/month, as they fuckign advertised, not 1.7GB day. This is really annoying, anyone knows a GOOD webhosting company, that won''t rip you off? I am willing to pay up to 20 USD/month, but I do want 100 GB/month, and I want to be able to store software and music, for download. Am I asking for too much? That sucks for months that only have 28 days in them. Too bad I don''t know what they are

I''m pretty sure what they mean by that is that they don''t want you hosting warez/mp3 downloads from your site. I don''t understand why they''d have trouble with distributing software that you yourself have created.

Colo services are expensive, and I only need a webhosting, the game server is hosted somewhere else, so I don''t have to worry about it.

After some more search, I found this company: http://www.technolojik.net
They promise unlimited traffic and webspace, and there is nothing in their ToS about legal downloads.
They do have something against mailing lists, and that''s not good, because we do have a mailing list, where we send announcements once every month or so to our users, about the game progress.

I will write them an e-mail, and see what they say.

No, apparently it applys to all the software, because I actually sent them an e-mail explaining them that I want to distribute the client of my MMORPG, and the music that will come with it.
And they said they are sorry, but their ToS is enforced.

Ah, in that case ... I don''t use them myself, but I''ve heard good things about iPaska. I''d check them out.

Raduprv - sorry to hear about all the problems. I think you may need to have a dedicated server to avoid the daily limits. The reason you see these daily limits is because the server your site is on is shared with other sites as well and they need some way to ensure that one of these sites does not monopolize the bandwidth on said server. You may be able to find a shared server which will not impose a daily limit but I never found one when I was searching for my webhost. I use powweb (www.powweb.com) which IMO is a pretty good deal. for $7.77/mo you get 1GB space, 65GB transfer (which can be increased), and a lot of other stuff. You _are_ limited to 3gb/day. You mentioned 3GB in your last post so maybe this would work for you. Service has been very reliable from these guys.

Bossk, thanks for the link, but they offer only 40 GB, and it is 20 USD/month, which is kind of bad.

drewslater, I understand that there are other websites on that server, but then they should change the way they advertise about their traffic. Also, 1.7 GB/day is not that much, afterall.
A day has ~84K seconds.
If they have a 100 Mbps card on each server (let''s just say 10 MBps), that means 1GB/100 seconds, so they should have enough bandwidth for everyone, unless they host an insanely large number of clients.
Anyway, I will look ar your link, and see if they suit my needs.

I''m hosted with Binasys. The guy who runs it is a top bloke and is very understanding (he''s even said he''ll consider letting me run my game server daemon). If one of his hosting plans fit you, maybe he''d be good...?

I doubt you'll find everything you need with a shared host. I can't direct you anyone that might be able to do it, but you can probably try WebHostingTalk. The people there seem to live, eat, sleep, and breathe the stuff so they can probably help you out.

PS. A quick search on their board doesn't seem to yield any prices under $30 for that much bandwidth.

It is their connections bandwidth that matters, not that of the individual machines'', that matter.

And, yes, a hosting provider must host "an insanely large number" to survive. You say you''re willing to pay $20/month. How many such customers do you think they need in order to pay salleries, rent, bandwidth, and gain some profit so they can expand and buy new hardware/software? They could not host that many websites, as you describe yours, on a single box, and they could quickly eat a 10 mbit connection. Do you have any idea how much a connection like that costs? Likely about $5,000/month, and they usually must have a failover connection. They would need ~250 customers like you, just to cover one such connection. It is not uncommon to host tens of thousands of [smaller] sites on a single box.

100gb for $20 is overselling any way you look at it. Unlimted anything should be avoided at ALL costs.

I have a suggestion for you, go to webhostingtalk and post in the requests section then do a search regarding the people that offer you it. Thats all I can really suggest. I mean if you look at alot of the professionally managed high quality bandwidth dedicated servers many only offer 100 - 200 gb them selves. Bandwidth isnt that cheap really.

You could try ipowerweb.com. They offer 800 MB storage and 40 GBs bandwidth, with no set daily limit. If you go over the 40 GB limit they just charge ya little bit more, they don''t cap it. It costs $8 a month or $100 a year including a domain name.

How they survive and how they share their bandwidth is not really my problem, it is their problem.
As long as they advertise something, they should actually offer what they advertise. Otherwise, they are not a serious company.

it is a sad thing, but you must learn to read the fine print.
