What is the deal with .plan files?
When id first set up their .plan file for help@idsoftware.com, it MADE SENSE. The web was not common, and it acted basically as a webpage, providing news and info.
Now the web is very common, to the point where it is VASTLY simpler for most people to go to a webpage than do a finger lookup, but id still does .plan files. Well, that''s not a big deal, but all these other companies are trying to be "cool" and set up .plan files as well. And it''s not even as simple as "help@idsoftware.com", now EVERY DEVELOPER has a .plan file, and in addition to running finger you have to know their LOGIN ID.
So now we are to the point where in order to run all these finger lookups you have to do it from a webpage with a specially written web finger client (with all the obscure login ids available on a menu), which is about 100 times more complex than a regular finger client and about 10 times more complex than just a developer webpage.
For godsakes, why don''t they just
mv .plan public_html/index.html
