I''m reading the OpenGL SuperBible, and it''s using GLUT for its examples. Is it good to learn GLUT before the Windows Framework, just to get a generaly feel for OpenGL Programming, or would it be best to start using the Windows Framework? Thanks in advance. Cheers.

GLUT is mainly used for demo''s and things along that line. If your going to be programming in OpenGL for the long haul though, you might as well just create a window wrapper and get it over with. Once you create the window wrapper, you''ll never have to do it agian (except for revisions). Also, if your going to be programming in OpenGL, I assume you know a little bit about c++. So it shouldn''t be to hard to come up with.

GLUT is good if you''re learning OpenGL and don''t want to get bogged down in the Win32 crap. However, it''s limited, because it''s not really geared towards games (or any kind of realtime simulations really). It''s largely event-driven, and there''s no way of handling things like immediate keyboard input.

I am using GLUT with the OpenGL Superbible book as well. I am comfortable with C++ and agree that GLUT is a good tool to use when learning OpenGL and the book explains that for "real world" apps, you wouldn''t use GLUT.

The NeHe tutorials on this site are great, I have just downloaded them and trying them out.

Btw, Thomas, have you had trouble getting the Terrain programs to run properly, as mine stretch and wreck my screen.

Thanks

Better to try and fail than to fail by not trying.
