Okay, I have a Laptop with a 2.4 GHz processor and a shitty gfxcard on one side, and a PC with a 500 MHz processor but a good GF 3 card on the other. Now, if I network these two and run a gfx-intesive app that is installed on the laptop FROM THE PC, which gfxcard computes the gfx? And which computers RAM get''s used?

Are you talking about like using X?

I''ve never tried running a "gfx-intensive app" before, but based on other stuff I''ve run remotely (Mozilla, etc) I''d say the laptop would end up doing most of the rendering. But that''s just a semi-educated guess.
I like the DARK layout!

The laptop does all of the work, but you will be putting a lot of stress on the network is this is a particularly large program.

No, not using any special remote application at all. Just hooking the computers up with a 100 MBit Network and running a program off the others hard drive.

I guess that the computer the app is run from does all the work, since it only runs something off the others harddisk as if it was one of it''s own, but I wonder if there is a way do "distribute" resources, taking advantage of the laptops GHz processor and the PCs gfxcard.

See my post.

--edit--

Some programs let you allocate resources amid a netowrk, like 3dsmax, but not many.

Well I tried this out once. I ran DungeonSiege, that is installed in the laptop, from the PC over the network. It worked fine, but I have no idea HOW it worked and which computer did what. Unfortunately my PC isn''t here right now so I can''t experiment further.

Are you sure that the laptop does all the work? As I said, I would assume that the PC simply loads the data off the others harddisk into it''s own memory and runs it normaly from there. But it would be cool if I could take advantage of both systems strenghts.

The network computer simply sends your computer the exe file so you can run it. That''s File Sharing.
Of course this doesn''t work with some shitty exe that requires things from the registry.

Geforce 3s generally output to a monitor, not a network. Even if you could somehow read the data back from the AGP bus, and push it down the network, the bandwidth would not be sufficient to get reasonable performance.
