Working with artists
I''m interested to hear what approach most of you take in conveying your ideas to various types of artists (both visual and acoustical). As the initial creator / designer of a game (or any other form of media), you are bound to have some idea of how the setting, characters, and game elements should look and feel. I am wondering whether the approach you take is a direct result of how much of an idea you have in your own head on how it should look and feel or rather if it is dependent on the individual and how you prefer to work with others. Do you give the artist(s) a general idea of what it is you are looking for a give total creative freedom to them to come up with what you hope is close and iterate from there, or are you involved thoroughly in the process (and in a sense, restricting the personal creativity of the artist to a point). I''d be interested to hear your take.
