Hi In the game I''m making (in VB) i need to be able to set the volume levels of music and sound effects. I''m using DirectSound for sound fx and DirectMusic for music. So, I change the volume of DirectSound using DirectSoundBuffer.SetVolume. Since I haven''t found a good way to change the music volume using DirectMusic calls, I tried to change it using the waveOutSetVolume API (since DirectSound output is actually wave output) and it worked. But, now every time I change the music volume through waveOutSetVolume, the volume of DirectSound also changes... I need to set the two volume levels seperately! Any suggestions? Thanks, VBMaster

Hey VBMaster,

Correct me if i''m wrong (since I have not done much work with DirectMusic) but couldn''t you just call the DirectMusicPerfomance.SetMasterVolume method ?? This should be completely seperate from any of your other DS buffers.

I could be wrong though

No, SetMasterVolume does not work on all sound cards and the volume values allowed are different for each card, and as far as I know there''s no way to find out the max and min values supported. So, it can''t be done this way.
