I bet they''ll (the Bush administration) claim it was a terrorist who started the fire.

They already have. It was on the BBC news yesterday (I''m not kidding).

cos only the forests in tropical states like califonia are dry enough to actually burn well, and those that are dry enough, do that without terrorists just as well.

I wonder why terrorists haven''t done this? Just start random forest fire in every state. All can''t be controlled, theres not enough fire fighters. Is very easy for a terrorist to do. The costs/devistation would be more than 9/11.

Because terrorists don''t want to create natural disasters; those don''t neccessarily cause the kind of terror they want to instill in people.

They need things like bombings which are undoubtedly man-made in order to shock people. Forest fires happen all the time; people will just dismiss it as being natural, and it won''t further the terrorists adjenda.

It''s entirely ironic that our government would be doing the terrorists jobs for them by implying that this could be caused by terrorism.

hmmm....

Arnold elected governer with no method to reduce dept without raising taxes (since he''s not cutting programs).

Only method available is Bush handouts, which basically means the other 49 states get to pay off California''s dept (California''s dept is transformed into federal dept)

Forest fires start. Bush declares California disaster area, allowing federal funds to be diverted without raising alarms.

Now I wouldn''t normally submit this kind of conspiracy theory, but given the existence of video proof showing who started the fires, I would have to wonder.

It''s spelled "debt" by the way.

As stated before, this isn''t exactly the type of thing that terrorists would do.

Also, and this is fast becoming one of my pet peeves, we had a major terrorist attack once in the past several years and now everyone thinks terrorism is this big threat. Wake up! Terrorism still kills far fewer people than almost anything that kills people.

Why don''t we have a war on global poverty. Or on suicide? Or on raceism? All those things can account for more deaths every year than terrorism has caused for a great many all put together.

Not to go off topic or anything...

@griffenjam:
some clear-headed thinking there.

only some of the things you mentioned there dont sell as easy as a war with lots of fighting: its what people like to see (if its in someone elses county ofcource).

my estimate is that if the ultimate goal of the war on terror was to save lives, these billions could have been spent at the very least a few hunderd times more efficient. that is, if they didnt have an adverse effect, which im afraid is most likely..

I don''t think it is an act of terrorism, but I think it would make sense for a terrorist to do this to scatter our resources for when something really big happens.

What surprises me a tad more is that given that religious fundamentalism is rife in the US, no one has publically raised the idea that god might be getting a bit pissed off.

LOL. Case in point: the director for that new Mel Gibson Christ movie has been struck by lightning TWICE on the set. God is angry indeed.

You see the reason politicians divert our attention to other areas of minor risk, is because it would take a bigger budget to deal with a major risk. I mean if this war is about 60 billion now, just think of what it would be if we handled real problems.

What happened in 9/11? We found one of the millions of cross beams which resemble a crucifix, and said God was on our side, despite having just had 3000 people murdered.

No, of course the "t" couldn''t have stood for "taliban"...

Anyway, you''re right. Some people DID think God was behind 9/11. Like Jerry Falwell, who publicly announced that all homosexuals were to blame for 9/11, and God was pissed over those damned people existing.

Oh come on, record federal deficit, record low unemployment, record uninsured Americans, record state budget crises, and record low federal economic growth are minor problems that are exagerrated by Communists. You''re not a communist, are you, Comrade?
