A friend and I are in the process of making a game and we were talking the other day about the music for the video. He had an idea that I thought was great. We thought before the video starts an icon would pop up with a list of a variety of music to listen to while watching the video. I haven''t seen it any other games before and wondered what you guys thought? Fuje

pretty cool idea. but most o those videos need to have their own soundtrack. you dont wanna here birds singing when in the video you see two huge asrmy of tanks moving towards each other, ya know.

I would say have the game done first, then worry about the videos

Not a bad idea, though you''ll have to be very careful in the way that you do it.

Many people may not realise, but the music plays a HUGE role in films, as it should videos. The background music sets the mood, makes us feel exactly how the writer wants us to.

Look at Alfred Hitchcock''s Psycho. Psycho is still considered as one of the greatest Horror/Thriller movies of all time, even though only two actual scenes of violence occur. The horror is in our head, as through the whole movie, the music makes us scared, makes us feel that something bad is going to happen.

Maybe if you limited the choices of music to a certain theme, so that they all have a silimar impact when they''re played with the videos.

For the greatest effect, I would opt for music that sets the mood and not allow a choice. The key is to select music that truly conveys the feeling of the video, as opposed to selecting music that screams one single genre.

i agree with the fact that you uses the sound to gives a "feel" to the player, think i this way: i the real world you have at least 5 senses to get a "feel" of the situation, but in a game you have 2 not fullfilled senses ( you can´t see deep in a tv and not always you have the proper sound equipament)

so you most agree that you don´t have too much resurces to give a "feel" to the player.

but in some games the music don´t make part in making the "feel" of the player it is only there to increase the experience encoraging or puting he in the mod of the game the player ( like in sports games) so will be best for the player that he pick up a music that he likes. like happens in all Sega racers since the great Out Run.

hope that i make some sense.

Thanks for the replies. I think were just going to pick 1 song for the video. It would make more sence and it would be less complicated. Thanks again.

I still dont know how you could have had 2 different sounds for a video? change the speechs or whatever?
