Hi Everyone. I am new to the message boards here but would like some feedback/ information. I have an extremely good idea for a computer/console RPG. I am a writer and in law school, so I have no time to learn computer programming and cannot do this myself. I want to see this game through and, though I know it''s a huge, complex project, I am trying to assemble a team to put together a demo for marketing. If the team is talented enough, perhaps we''ll do the whole game together, but that is in the future. For obvious reasons I cannot get into details about the game. I am looking for artists and programmers who live in California I have written a storyboard and rules set and many branch-off "quests" for the game. The game will take place in an original 3-D, 1st person "world" and will use familiar fantasy class/race systems in addition to some of my own creation. The game includes adventure and hack/slash, problem solving, and strategic elements to complete the story. I cannot pay out of pocket for team members (law school is killing my savings). Anyone interested will get even shares of the game. (5 member team, 5 shares ... etc.) Please, if you are interested and have necessary skills, email me at writersblock101@msn.com Thanks

Dont take this harshly but everyone has a good idea for a game, like they say ideas are as cheap as chips, and yours will most likely be no exception. No artist or programmer in there right mind is going to take an equal share unless you can contribute somthing more to the project.

Just my opinion, how does everyone else feel?

Farmergnome is correct. Pretty much everyone is here because they thought of the best game(s) ever. Also, if you become serious about this, first do a lot more research, and then develop some skill other than being a think tank or a manager (programming, modeling, etc). No one is looking to take on someone ele''s project, and that is essentially what you''re asking.

if you really don''t want to learn how to program or model, and can''t get the help you want (sorry, but i am currently working on my greatest-video-game-ever idea), you could check out some of those game maker type programs. they basically let you piece together a game without having to learn how to program (some stuff might need scripting, but it is a hellova lot easier than learning C++). there are a bunch that are specifically designed to make RPGs too.

he also says hes a writer, you need a writer for rpgs...really, you do.
Agreed. But quite honestly, it is much more important to have a programmer at this stage than a writer. Good ideas and storylines are a dime a dozen, especially in this neck of the woods. The necessary technical skill to even begin moving that towards the final goal of a ''video game'' is severely lacking. Without that, he may as well start writing novels.

clear, to the point...I think Ill inquire.
While he does appear to know how to write something with at least some coherency, his post *clearly* demonstrates little to no prior gamedev research, as this has all been posted before. Specifically, things such as "I have no time to learn computer programming and cannot do this myself...trying to assemble a team to put together a demo...For obvious reasons I cannot get into details about the game...I cannot pay out of pocket for team members..." are big red flags and could have been *easily researched before hand and a more realistic post could have been made. In fact, when this post was forst made in the wrong forum, he could have received a big tip by following up on what Obscure said: " This post should be in the help wanted forum, along with the hundreds of similar projects/ideas looking for a team." Personally, that would have led me to at least look into some of them and then make a better case as to why anyone should help him with this. After all, if he is going to be a lawyer, make a case.

those who replied..you guys are kinda jaded arnt you?
Not jaded, just realistic. Very few people here want to work on someone else''s game idea from scratch, and unfortunately with just an idea/writing/storyboard you really aren''t ahead of the curve here. Don''t get me wrong, I wish this project the best of luck; I just want you to all take a more realistic look at the situation, and to do some research because I have a feeling that none has been done.

The reality is "I have a great idea!" doesn''t cut it; much, much more needs to be done, and that starts with research.

Best of luck.
