Okay, well, I still think this is really a priority thing, you should at least have standards for how long it should last based on what you do.

No. There should only be an upper-limit on the severity of punishment for a crime. Establishing a transparent system would actually encourage some people to goof around, because they''d say "Oh, I''ll be on probation for days/weeks and then it''s back to normal."

Probation isn''t a little moderator inside joke. It''s intention is to make clear that we consider behavior inappropriate, but do not wish to expel the individual from the community. Step outside the Lounge and see how few people are on probation there.

Furthermore, most probations are discussed by the mods. Recommendations for duration - and for banning, because a ban is never summary - are also made on the mods'' mailing list.

Have fun on this site, but behave yourself and you''ll never be on probation. It''s not too much to ask.
