[java] Java + IDE = which one do you prefer?

Original Post
i was wondering what other people used and how useful they find their IDE to be. i tried to use JBuilder (Borland) but their registration is so convoluted i just stopped trying and said "bleh".
right now i''m using or better to say getting to know JCreator.
i randomly picked it but i''m glad i did. it very similar to the
Visual C++ IDE so the learning curve is almost nil.
yeah, i used jcreator for a long time. its great and simple...i still use it for the default java viewer (since it loads quickly) for when i download code just to look at or something.
i use eclipse now, and i dont think i''ll turn back. its sooo full featured, you can basically do anything, right from the ide.
that''s also its downside...it takes me a long time to figure out how to do something new, and i feel like theres all this hidden stuff that could be so useful to me, but i dont even know it exists. small price to pay though.

I have not used Eclipse. If the learning curve is steep, does anyone know of a good tutorial on getting it up and running???

I think, therfore I am.

Another vote for Eclipse.
Only drawback is there is no visual editor. I haven''t searched for one yet either, so there may be one out there.

Never used Eclipse, the most IDEs I tried didn''t support the right Java version, or fullscreen programs. So I''m currently using KWrite (Text editor for KDE (Linux))
KWrite is has some basic functions; code highlighting, auto indent and some more, nothing special. I would like to use an auto complete funtion and an easy class/function/variable browser
I hope Eclipse support that, I''m gonna check it out now.

i''m beginning to think Java doesn''t like me
it seems like the IDE is giving me an exceptinn thread in main error. i''ve got everything where it should be. anyone have an idea of what could be going wrong. and yes i checked the FAQs... didn''t help.
also i wanted to try NetBeans, it seems like a fun name
BlueJ is the suxors. and JBuilder == "bleh".
I checked out the Eclipse website it seems like that thing does everything under the sun. is that a Good Thing (TM)?

Eclipse is quite easy to learn - nothing to be afraid of. And there are visual GUI dev tools available as plugins. There are plugins available for nearly everything you can think of - UML modelling, C/C++ devlopment, J2EE unit testing, J2EE integrated environments (which work with JBoss, WebSphere, Tomcat, Resin, and other Servlet/J2EE containers), profilers, and much more.
The buit in refactoring tool is my favorite by far. It gets more advanced with each release, and can save a ton of time.

I use it too. I've tried eclipse and a few others, but I prefer netbeans, despite a few problems it has.
Yeah I tried NetBeans too, I really like it, has alot of features, except to support my fullscreen app, so I can't use it
Eclipse is a pain to install, there website is useless, can't find anything on it
EDIT
Eclipse is not a pain to install, I guess I need to stop downloading new programs after midnight

I know it''s not technically an IDE, but does anyone use NotePad?
how would you check it?
with WordPad?
how would you compile it?
with Word?
sorry, just being silly
I use Eclips for everything but GUI design. I didn''t know that there were any plugins for it, so I''ll have to look.
Up to now I have been using NetBeans for my GUIs, and really like it for that so far. I can''t say I like the code editor as much, since it seems to be a bit less intelligent than Eclipse.

Yes sometimes, but I''m rather using Linux now. So VIM and other linux based editors. I would have to download some aother reasonable software, under Linux, until I would feel confy with an IDE.
