Strategy, early world war 1 style
Im thinking of creating a strategy game where you control groups of maybe 50-80 infantryman eg armies, so you would have army 1, army 2, army 3.
Then you have a base of which you would spawn new armies depending on how well you are going in the war.
The very start would be a rush to take the most advantagess land, eg high ground, choke points.
Then once the lines are drawn up eg infantry digin, artilley set in place, commanders would attempt to break specific lines or the enemy so they can flank them or attack the base.
Artillery would be only abled to be destroyed by other cannons, so if an opposing army broke your line and captured your cannons to the rear would be very bad!
The controlled elements so far would be, the Base, Army, Artillery.
Artillery can be taken by clicking an army on them, so they are manned, and they can be moved slowly.
The armies would have options like bayonet charge etc, where once they are starting an attack you have to wait the battle out.
Other possible features would be setting waypoint orders, once a goal has been accomplished, eg break enemy line, set up defenses of the newly taken land.
This would be multiplayer only.
I thought about this idea, as im sick of controlling single units all the time, an flanking etc in strategy games these days is so much micro management it is painful as, and having to build resource collectors etc takes alot of time away from strategising.
So what do you think? Would people be interested in a strategy of this style?
It sounds interesting, and I would definately play it, don''t worry about that. One minor thing that just annoyed me is that 50 to 80 men is not the definition of an army, rather a platoon. It''s easy to change and does not effect gameplay though.
