Im looking for some program to play with audio files. In particular, I''d like to be able to truncate audio files (including mp3''s) and separate the left from the right speakers sound, and separate the music from the voice sounds, or even the individual instruments if thats even possible. Most importantly, I would like to be able to slow down music and play it at maybe 50% speed or something. Im mostly interest in mp3s, but wavs are fun to play with too. Does anyone know of such free software?

Be sure to download the mp3 decoder/encoder, Lame so that you can edit mp3s.

Sony SoundForge (formerly Sonic Foundry) is awesome, but it is $400, so it may not be the best just to play around with. It''s the best, though.

I have used Goldwave before, and it''s good, too.

Cool Edit Pro is also a very good sound editing program.. I prefer it over Soundforge, but Soundforge is also very good.
