GUI Lib

Original Post
Can someone here recommend a good graphics lib that I could use to create a windowing gui? Please don''t give me any gaming libs like allegro. I use Linux, incase there are any Linux-only libs you might recommend.
Someone?
I''ll try it out but I prefer to use C.
This seems more than a few libs or one like Xlib. I was hoping for something that includes few headers. Just something simple for me to play with. I''m compiling the bitch right now and its huge.
One of the two popular GUI toolkits for X is GTK+. Its native language is C, but there are bindings available for most of the popular languages out there (C++, Java, Python, Perl, Ruby, C#, et cetera). You'll want to use the 2.x variety, the 1.x versions are (to put it mildly) deprecated. There is a decent tutorial on the site.
To give a mention as well: the other popular toolkit for X is Qt. Its native language is an "older style" C++ (you'll see what I mean if you get into using it). I've little experience with it, so you'll want to check something more definitive for more information.
Both of those GUI toolkits handle layout for you by default, making them easy to create complex applications with compared to certain more primitive GUI toolkits.

Yes but can I create a wm with it and not have to screw around with xservers and such? I don''t think so. Thats why I don''t want to use X.

Creating a "window manager" implies that you''ll have to use X and likely Xlib unless you want to go really low level (framebuffer, svgalib, possibly DirectFB). wxWindows (by distribution default, at least) uses GTK+ in *nix. Metacity is a X window manager written using GTK+, but it does have to deal with Xlib as well to actually manage the windows.

eh
You cannot walk this road without mentioning fltk (www.fltk.org).
Many people uses MFC for windows applications, some say it''s the best, some say they hate it, make up your own mind.
Myself I''m using wxwindows. Yes, it''s a wrapper for other gui-tools, but I''m on both windows and linux and like the API.
