Yo, Just been thinking about this, but I reckon comedy (i.e. a performance with humour) could be defined into 2 categories: Slapstick - A performance where a part in the story gets into embarrassing and uncomfortable situations which have laughter value (e.g. Charlie Chaplin). In my opinion, it's rather articifical and doesn't require much intellegence to laugh at Satire - Making jokes or poking fun out of others. For instance, the Simpsons is a social satire on the typical American family. Other examples include 'My Hero' (a British TV sitcom making fun out of superheroes living on Earth). Any other categories to be added? I think it's a fair summing up of the types of comedy you get these days. [edited by - CloudNine on January 3, 2004 5:11:51 AM]

That''s parody, not satire.

Ah, interesting. Then what would you define satire as?

A work in which an attack is made with sarcasm, wit or irony. It''s similar to parody, except that satire is intended to make a point.
