I love playing counterstrike with my heart, but there is one problem... I can''t do much while playing it. 1 main thing that I would like to do is to be able to use "MSN Messenger" while in counterstrike. All I have in mind is for it to go something like this: User is logged into msgr b4 running CS. During CS play user recieves msg from friend *cory* -text color is normally only 1 color in cs, not sure if you can make them multi colored but if you can have it be another color then say "*MSN*cory: HI!!" I hope this makes sense. I would try to do this but I just learned how to make a program that can add 2 whole numbers. I hope to learn during this. I also have source code for messenger but none for Counter Strike or Half Life. Plz Help THX

Not possible, without hacking/cracking (no starting flames against the meaning of those words) the source.

Edit: I hope this makes sense. I would try to do this but I just learned how to make a program that can add 2 whole numbers.

it''s not possible in the least bit? or it is possible but i will be detected for hacking in the game.

Just curious cuz i saw it down in Asheron''s Call the MMORPG

If it is a hacking problem, then could there be a way to style in a seperate transparent app that is always ontop and the only thing i can see is the text recieved from no matter who and a way to reply to certain ppl?

Yeah that would be sweet. I remember in one version of NetHack, if you got mail while you were playing, then in the game a little character would appear and walk over to you and give you the email.

if you can use winamp in half life/CS why shouldn''t you be able to use messenging services? it may simply be a matter of running the service outside HL and then having it communicate somehow with half life.

The reason Asheron''s Call includes MSN Messenger is that both are Microsoft products.

Does Asheron''s Call include AOL Instant Messenger? Or maybe a gateway to an open API such as Jabber? No.

If Microsoft wants to own something, they will.

AC doesn't include it there was someone that created a seperate program for it. But they impliment it into ac's chat program.

run the game in windowed mode, and alt+tab to msn

Well alt+tab ing takes alot of juice, both for the pc and my grfx card, thus the reason why i wanted to create a program. I honestly expected to get alot more help than just "ya i want that too" or some smart ass coming up w/ program simularities. I am positive there is a way to get this to work. Because if i can think of it then there''s a way to program it. Whether it be in gam or some 3rd party program that I can run as a plug-in or always ontop.

Please write if you are interested in helping me achieve this goal. I will do my best to help research what you will/would need. Thank you all so far for the support, those that were supportive, it lets me know im not alone on this want or need.

Obviously you have no idea what your talking about. For AC there is decal plugin. It allows users to create plugins such as irc client, a skill calculator, whatever.

And microsoft doesn''t own AC anymore, it was purchased by turbine.

Steam has a built in messenging service, though I''ve never tried using it.

you can use irc in cs so I don''t see a problem using msn,

just find the write windows msgs or ask the guys who did hlirc how they did it.

Thank you for the back up on the AC deal I appreciate it and found him quite rude as well.

As far as it runing on an IRC this i didn''t know, nor did I know that where was a half life IRC. I will try to look into that and see what I can find out. I did know that there was a new messaging system, but never really thought to try to tie it into that. Thank you guys so much for the last few post it really helped. If you have some more ideas please shoot them out, if you would like to help me on this project, coding wise, please let me know as well. Otherwise I will check back in once I find more info bout the HLIRC.
