I could use some feedback on a stress test for a project I''m working on, and I know you''re the guys to turn to. It''s an overhead (2d) space combat sim. Pardon the programmer art. If you''re a fan of Star Control 2 you may recognize a couple of old friends. Oh....and ''hyperspace'' is a blantant ripoff of starcon2. I started making this thing because I wanted to play an updated version of that great game. -Madgap madgap@aol.com 5.5mb file located at: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~rkingsle/Star5_Test.zip Controls: (Configure using keys.ini) W = Thrust A = Rotate counterclockwise D = Rotate clockwise Space = Fire E = Target nearest enemy R = Target next enemy Q = Release target M = Open map (Starmap in hyperspace, sector map during combat) Esc = Quit Notes: - This is a stress test so things may get a little crowded... - Framerate is capped around 100fps - This is a HARD ''game''... >:] - To leave a sector just keep flying away from the star. - If you die and there is no friendly starbase you''ll spawn back in hyperspace - Beware of the "Hidden"

Hello.
I briefly trialed your game - I got around 70-80 fps average running on a G4 MX 440 64 mb, 512 megs of RAM. Everything looks nice - graphics and all are very impressive. The background is initially bright-red - I assume this is normal?
Some things had confused me though. For instance, I get hit by one projectile, lose control due to the EMP effect and then must watch as I sit there still and die. Then I respawn and it happens again.
Why do I take damage when flying over a sun? The sun is clearly in the distance and it makes no sense.
A suggestion - why not have the velocity of the spacecraft pass onto the velocity of this bullets fired, rather than shooting at a fixed power? I belive this would enhance the gameplay.
Also, I suggest you add a ''gunflare'' when the cannon is fired for a better effect, giving the player a better feeling that this projectile is actuall fired from this ship.
I did not enjoy flying for a long time to reach a battle, but I assume this is a development-version feature that will likely change.
Perhaps you might like to have a faster, more manuverable spacecraft - it is a combat game after all.

Anyhow, that is my input. Good work with this - I had alot of fun playing it.

Just noticed that after getting hit by a projectile, my spacecraft is permanently out of order - if I am drifting away from the battle then no-one comes to kill me and I am just left for eternity. How does one bring the spacecraft back on line?
