Finally something Alienware did right. Yay.
Way to expensive for my budget.

Mine too. But when I go to college in five or six years, they''ll be down in price enough.

Excellent, another way Alienware found to make more money post-sale.
Why buy a $3,000 laptop, when after 4-5 years, it will be worth no more than a door-stop?

Check out the cheapest one, the $2500 one. I didn''t know they still made 5400 RPM HDDs. That computer is just such a horrible rip off. +$350 for a 1024MB DDR PC-3200 - 2x512 SO-DIMMs, from a 1x256???? Ummm... you can get 2x512 3200 sticks for far less than $200. Upgrading your amazing 20gig 5400 RPM HDD to an equally astounding 40 gig 5400 RPM HDD costs $55!!!! A brand new 40 gig 5400 RPM HDD isn''t worth anywhere near $55, much less an upgrade.
Why would anybody ever buy one of these machines? These are obviously huge rip offs.

Pfft, who needs RAM and a good HDD... when you can CHANGE THE GPU!!! OMFG!!!
I''m on your side.
Why do Suicide Bombers think they''re going to a better place?
Don''t they know their going all over the place?

Obviously you know nothing of laptop computers.. because if you did than you would realize 5400 is the standard HDD speed in a notebook, and you still find 4200''s around.
Also laptop drives (2.5") are more expensive and smaller capacities than desktop (3.5") drives due to manufacturing.
I do realize laptop drives are generally more expensive than desktop drives. Unfortunately I could not find a surplus retailer with laptop hardware to find exact pricings. What I was going by was the fact that I created a nearly identical system (FX instead of Radeon graphics, 333mhz instead of 400mhz ram) at Dell and it cost $1300 total. A replacable graphics card isn''t worth $1200 extra. Honestly I don''t see how they manage to sell computers with such gigantically high prices. Also, who plays pc intensive games on laptops???

I highy doubt that a $1300 Dell notebook can compare so Alienware (basically you are saying Dell notebooks are comparable to Sager). Please let me know which model Dell you have and I will explain to you the differences.
Please notice the LCD screen is a HUGE difference, RAM speed is a HUGE difference (put it this way... moving from 266 - 400 I bumped performance by approx 35%, 333 - 400 you would gain maybe 20% performance increase, more if dual channel), FSB is KING! The difference between a 400/533 FSB and 800 FSB is insane.
I could go on about the differences but there is no Dell notebook for $1300 that compares to the lowest end Alienware at all.
If you want a notebook with the exact same specs as an Alienware, but you don''t want to pay for the case design, check out Sager notebooks, which are high-end.
