I got my nice new Logitech "Easy Internet Keyboard" yesterday...and I totally hate it! First off, some moron decided that the F-keys weren''t necessary and should be replaced by special keys - omfg genious! Now, this can be toggled and wouldn''t be as bad if the drivers would only work properly...but they don''t! Using the Play/Pause key has the great feature of making winamp load a song titlet "%1", and trying to play it over and over again. Additionally, it also crashes the keyboard drivers. I''m going to get the latest drivers, and if they don''t work... Anyway, some of the "features" of this keyboard are pretty annoying so I was wondering if someone knows some guide to writing your own keyboard drivers. Sadly, I don''t have access to the Windows DDK, so that''s probably not an option.

I don''t mind the windows key (though it is in a bad spot), but I can''t stand extra buttons. Dell QuietKey FORE''ER!

I liked my logitech mouse, but their replacement policy sucks compared to MS (how can you beat free replacement, no questions asked, anytime?), and I wanted a 5 button mouse so I bought an intellimouse explorer when my logitech ''wheel mouse optical'' broke.

I love the extra buttons on my keyboard! The media ones are super-useful, and I have a variety of the "Internet keys" set to programs:

Print ->Print
Camera ->Paint Shop Pro
Sports ->Notepad
Finance ->Windows Calculator

Of course you only have the generic stuff they have that came with your system.

Logitech makes alot of good stuff; Mice, wireless keyboards, webcams, and the headphones with mics in them. But then they fail at pretty much everything else, like internet keyboards. Internet keyboards are gay though no matter who makes them.

I have absolutely no problem with my new Logitech keyboard. I think the real problem here lies somewhere between the monitor and the chair.

That''s mean...

Anyway, the new drivers seem to have fixed the problem. The special F-keys are still retarded, but I''ll probably get used to them in a day or so.

I recently got a new logitech keyboard and mouse (wireless).

I must say that logitech make some really fantastic hardware.

However, they are absolutly pants in the software department. I suppose everything is a marketing-requested big and flashy thing.

My solution: Never , under any circumstances, install a Logitech driver. [edit] except for joysticks and the like [/edit]

The mouse driver has shit like that shortcut wheel thing (which eats your middle button for anything useful), and also changes the functionality of the scroll wheel to some of the most rediculious settings. Even on "normal" mode (which is not the default), I could not get the scroll wheel/button to behave like it would work under windows (it was similar, but annoyingly slow). And there was no way to have the driver drop the button presses down to windows to allow for the default behaviour.

As far as the stupid keyboard goes, the F-lock button business is a steaming pile of crap, but as far as I can tell, if you leave F-lock on, then you get the standard F-keys. Who's brillient idea that there needs to be a "new" button on F1, when they've labeled ctrl-N as new anyway... What a waste of a key!

As far as the "special" buttons go, again, the solution is not to install the logitec drivers. You will not have access to the "special" features, but anyone who has any intelegence would not consider these brightly coloured features "cool" or "useful".

The keyboard itself is very nice.

The only problem I have with the keyboard is that there is a "sleep" button about where the escape key should be (the escape key has moved uncomfortably right), and pressing that key will crash my Windows 98 system.

If you want to use the special keys for anything, might I suggest installing a peice of software called "Girder". This is mostly because, unlike the driver software, you are not forced to put certian functions on certian keys, etc, or put up with any other "features" you don't want.

As far as I can tell, if you don't use the logitech driver, logitech keyboards and mice will work just like normal ones (and send some extended codes for the special keys, which can then be captured by a more useful program, ie: Girder)

I also have one of the earlier internet keyboards, which is good, because it is exactly like a normal keyboard, but with a few buttons in the top right corner (in the space above the number pad). Living with the drivers installed for this one was actualy barable, but I didn't install the drivers on the lastest system-install, simply because the special keys were never used.

I wonder if the people realise that the stupid internet buttons never actualy get used beyond the first week or so of having the keyboard?

obviously,

all of you are no real professional keyboard users

if i'm interested in working professional with computers, i decide:
- only to buy a "pure" keyboard
- only to buy a pure keyboaad from an "established" manufacturer
- only to buy a pure keyboard from an "established" manufacturer which supports only the minimum thing of functions (whose idiot invented a WinAMP play key on a computer keyboard?!!?!??!?!?!?!?! are you at your workmachine or in the table-dance club?!)
- only to buy a keyboard which's full capability is available WITHOUT any drivers ! (Do you have to call your goverment to fill fuel of another type into your car - NO !!! - so there is no reason to intall anything additional for your keyboard (expected that you are not using such goofy/dumb indernet features!)

edit: (the most important part)
- no real prof. user needs internet keys
- no real prof. user needs windows keys (as seen on todays Windows keyboards)
- no real prof. user needs more than 102 key combs.
- no real prof. computer user needs a keyboard which harasses more than it is increasing her/his productivity.

SO, why the hell should anyone go out and buy a windows keyboard ????

I love the feeling of my Logitech internet keyboard''s keys.

I like this soft feeling.

I just pray they release some util that runs on startup and set the Function keys on again, so that we dont have to do it manually... i almost broke the dam keybaord when i bought it cause i thought the F keys where screwed up...

I have one of those MS keyboards with a whole bunch of extra keys over the F keys and the number pad, about the only ones that get used are the buttons for ''my computer'' and ''calculator''.

The Sun workstations my uni used to have in the labs had some good keyboards (before they were all replaced by win2k/linux dual boot), a normal keyboard yet with a collumn of extra buttons after a small gap on the far left. Cut, copy, & paste buttons (and perhaps a couple more) that were actually *handy* (shock! horror!). Why havn''t those caught on

I have a $10 (CAN) piece of shit. It has 104 buttons, what more could I possibly need?

It does have a few custom buttons like "Internet" and "Email" and volume controls. They don''t bother me at all, as they''re hidden away in the top right hand corner of the keyboard, and can sometimes be useful. Also, they required no special configuration or drivers.

My only complaint about the thing is that it''s cord isn''t quite long enough, but that''s not a problem anymore since it''s now plugged into my EagleMax joystick. The joystick cords serves as sort of an extension cord.

Moral of the story: don''t spend > $10 on a keyboard. What the hell is wrong with you?

DJSnow: You''ll be happy to know I''ve only ever got internet keyboards when they been what came with a PC, or as a present.

I must say I do use the windows key. It''s handy to pop-up the start menu when you''re just sitting down, and havn''t grabbed the mouse yet - and also to pop up the auto-hide taskbar to see the clock when away from the PC. Also, Win-M, for minimise all is useful, as is Win-D, Win-R, Win-E, etc. All in all, the windows key is pretty good.

OrangyTang: I have seen these keyboards in the Sun labs at uni too. I must say they are not all that good, as these features are usualy on other keys anyway... like control-C will copy just as quickly, if not quicker, as moving off the keyboard to the side keys.

Simple, I have a standard windows keyboard for my PC , I got it for free, so I am not complaining about it or anything, but there are windows key combos that I think are useful, like windows key+R, which allows me to run programs, windows key +d to show desktop, and windows key + f to find files on my machine. It does allow for more shortcuts that way, so you can increase productivity.

My MS Natural keyboard is the best I''ve ever had and I can''t think of using another one.

Otherwice I really like Logitech, I prefer it over MS.

My MX500 mouse had been amazing, really accurate and feels good in the hand.

BTW. Buttons should make a click sound(or any sound), I can''t stand not hearing when I press the buttons.
