I'm looking for some help with this game. Need a programmer and Artist. Here is the Screenshot: http://www.fcl-us.net/~jamief/game/screenshot.html Programmer It would help if you have experience with Swing, or java network programming. Artist Will redesign the board and all pieces shown in the screenshot, animations for when pieces collide, etc. The pieces can either be 2d or they can be made in a modeling program and in 3d. Where you see the little aol icon, that will actually be differnet pieces. I don't know what the pieces will be yet. Whatever you want to draw actually. The pieces can have a military theme(General, LT, Colonel, Bomb, Flag, Spy etc.) or even a fantasy them (Wizzard, Elf, Hobbit, Dragon, Ring) I will give the artist some flexibility on this. The game will eventually be published on a website. It is a small java, web-based game that can be played in the browser. It's a very simple game. As of right now, it is 2 player. It's similar to the board game Stratego, except that it's not turn-based and pieces can move differently. For example, there could be probably be a piece that moves similar to a knight in chess. The idea is to capture the other person's flag piece. Before the game begins the player will set up their board and position their pieces. As of right now the game is playable you can move pieces, capture pieces, but it needs some work. I need to create a game lobby. I've designed the lobby in c++/mfc and need to convert it to java so i can use it in a browser. If you look at the screenshot, you see where each player put his pieces. Of course when you play the game online, I think you will only know what your own pieces are. Your oponents piece would be unknow (you would see the back of the piece.) You will not know the other person''s piece until you have attacked their piece or they have attacked you. I haven''t decided yet, if the oponents piece type will remain visible after a collision or if they will go back to the generic piece.

I''m designing the classes in such away that I can reuse the classes in a new game. For example the board class can be re-used to create a checkers game. Each specific piece is derived from a base piece class and can be reused on a different size board, etc.

no one interested? keep in mind that this is a good way to learn stuff by doing a small project first. The idea here is to get a few small actual games completed for resume purposes.

hey, thanks for responding to my gamedev.net post. What do you think of the game idea? Any ideas to make it more interesting? If you want to help that''s great!

What else can I say about the game. The pieces currently are moved with the mouse (drag and drop). After you move a piece, you have about 5 seconds before you can move that piece again. If you see the screen shot, you will see one square is half yellow. That is because the player just moved that piece and cannot move it unil all the yellow drains away. This will turn it into an action game rather than a strategy turn-based game. But there''s no reason we can''t have multiple different versions of the game since the classes should be reuseable.

This is to be an Action game; Turn based is not as exciting. By stratego, I mean that it''s like the game called "Stratego." In this game you have pieces ranking from 1-9, bombs, a spy, and a flag, The #1 piece is a Marshal, #2 is a general, #3 might be a LT. etc. so #1 being the highest rank and 9 the lowest.

When you attack an opponents piece the higher rank always captures the lower rank. If it is a tie, the attacking piece wins. The #8 piece is a miner, miners are the only piece that can destroy a bomb. All pieces move 1 space per turn. The #9 piece (Scout) is special, he can move any number of spaces but in only one direction. He can also only attack if he''s moving 1 space.

You get 1 #1(Marshall) and 1 spy. One cool part is that any piece beats the spy. However, if the spy attacks the #1 he assasinates the #1. It is a huge advantage to kill the other guys top dog but hard to do.

The rules will bend from the game Stratego. I''m not looking to make a clone. I have the gameplay mostly done. However that is only 1/2 the work. The network code to make this 2 player and the game lobby and additional rules are just as much, probably more work.

I''m aware the screenshot is funky, but the gameplay behind it is mostly there. First make it work, then make it look pretty. Thanks for all the responses so far. Anyone interested in doing the artwork?
