Are "I''m leaving" threads allowed? I don''t know. I am leaving though. I''m not sure if you guys care or not, or even like me. Recent events in my life have prompted me to realize that the GameDev forums are not the place for me.
After being randomly suicidal for the last six months, and even attempting once, I''ve learned that some things in life really do matter. Those things aren''t online. Aside from that, there are a myriad of better ways to spend your time. TV, Books, Movies... something that gives you a common ground with people that aren''t computer nerds. I dunno if anybody can learn from what I''ve experienced, or maybe I''m coming in from way off base, but...yeah.
I''ve met some cool people here. I love you, and will miss you. I hope to maybe see some of you again some time. Bye.

Good idea, but books, movies, and the such are NOT what you''re looking for.
If you really want people in your life, pick activities that REQUIRE people!!!
Karate is a good example. Or other sports. Maybe volenteer to do some community service. Reading books will put you in a simular place as reading the Internet.

I find that I have little in common with non-nerds also (except my wife). Since my wife has a pretty big friends network, I get to meet all kinds of people and converse with them in all sorts of awkward ways.
Although I never thought to blame GD. I always blamed it on the fact that I am obsessed with game programming. So I figured I would just try to be a nice guy that is kinda weird to talk to, but still a nice guy
.
Then I found alcohol. The great social equilizer! If you are of legal age, you should give it a try next time you find yourself in a social situation. It works wonders. I''m serious.

You should learn a new word: girls. Girls, girls, girls, girls, girls. And, yes, GameDev can be one element in your life that defines a social barrier, but that doesn''t mean you have to give it up. Do as I do: care less. It''s not about proving yourself, not to us "computer nerds", not to girls in a social context, nor to your "cool" friends. It''s about being able to distinguish between them and approach the problem rationally rather than... oh, wait - you don''t need a lecture. Strike that. If your decision is to leave, no one can persuade you to do otherwise. The best of luck in your life, though! I don''t know you very well, but I''ve heard hearing stuff like that really works for some people.

The point is not to go to the extreme and abandon things, it is to find the balance amongst things. I have gone for months without a PC, and I''ve gone for months barely leaving it and both were extremes that did me no good. Put aside an hour or two every night for a book, and an hour or two for the forums, and an hour or two for socializing. It is the best way.

Man, you are going to watch TV and movies as a way to change your life? At least on the forums you get to communicate and exchange thoughts.
Oh well, to each their own, and I wish you good luck at it.

Shame, you were one of the few posters who actually had something to say apart from spamming. Who are we going to replace you with as resident guitar guru?
A real shame you must go. I learned so much about the equipment for the electrical guitar from you. Maybe they should have made you the moderator for the guitar forum here on gamedev.net.

That song is great! And it's one of the few on a totally serious topic. Besides, it's perky and gives you back your will to love. Don't try suicide!
edit: edited to change 'love' to 'live', but I won't... Mods (esp. 23yo): if you edit this, ugh... I don't know... Ugh...

You must remember that Ryan is a mod, so he needs to spend time reading the crap and laying the smack down and such.
I try and keep forum-surfing to a minimum, but I still pop in every day for something like half an hour or so, much more if there''s some intresting discussion going on.
And no, "I''m Leaving" threads are technicaly not allowed
But yeah, I do not recomend "leaving". I recomend cutting down forum time to a minimum. Just pop in every day or three, and see if there''s anything intresting on the topics list. It''s about balance.
As you can see from this thread, you''ve added a lot in the way of guitar information to this forum.
Also, I''d suggest TV, books and movies are not what you want, as they are probably less social than the internet. I do recomend doing some sort of sport or something intresting you can do with your mates.
Good luck with it.

Okay, two things.
One:
First and third lines good, second and fourth lines seem to encourage suicide.
Two:
I don''t think you guys seem to realize that he''s already gone. He''s made his descision and left. I dearly hopes that he''ll come back, but if not, well, okay. That''s just the way it happens. You''ll be missed, man.

Or you may go strait a way to hell without stops. Which of course is infinitely worst than this (for someones) temporal depression called life![]()

Said the man who spent months on random IRC networks, act like a girl, and then become an op and wreak havoc.
