MMORPGS: Story ideas? Christian Elements?
Well, how about you start with the source? My project will have "Christian elements" in it as well, though it''s not an MMO, but I''ve found the Bible is an excellent source of ideas. There''s all kinds of interesting stories in there that you can pull ideas from. Just be careful not to take too much "creative license", or else you might skew what the Bible actually says.

Ahh...ok..
You could take some verse out of duteronomy or something, and then just go with it until you wind up with something like the matrix (it had something abotu "The Smith", right? and that was supposed to be from something in leviticus...right?)
Oh, and i've just gotta ask...do i know you? there's a girl we used to call KD...and...yeah...

Programmers of the world, UNTIE!
Last Poster: I am not a girl right now, and I never was a girl before, so I don''t think we''re the same person.
Everyone Else:
I like the ideas so far. And I think it is a good idea to make a new ''religion'' so that I can take creative license, but to draw many parallels with Christianity. In this respect I should be able to have creative license without offending Christians, aswell, it might appear to non-believers.
Thanks for your help so far. I need to be thinking of a setting next, and a basic kind of conflict.

Conflict: make it a religious war, people get to chose between science and technology or religion. Or make 2 or 3 different religions where each are trying to murder off the others (non belivers).
if your gonna be making a game based on an established religion....you probably will be facing critism...and negative energy..so id advise you to hide the religion behind the implementation....ie. lose the cross--but in place have another symbol...get my point.
the holy wars would probably make a great story plot...but this time the wars are between 2 gods...
just thought id give my oppinion..

ROFL. When I read the original post my first thought was "if those fundies don''t approve of D&D, you''d never be able to sell them on an MMORPG..." :D
I really don''t think tying a MMO game with Christianity is a good idea. Many people shy away from Christain media for one reason or another.

That''s true, but many Christians shy away from mainstream RPG''s for their own reasons. There''s a huge population of potential buyers out there. The problem has been the lack of good Christian media. Most of what''s available is targeted at children under the heading of Christian education.

Because admittedly, it has mostly been complete crap until the last few years. I played in a christian rock band for a while and played concerts with a lot of the 'big' christian bands in the mid-late 90s. On the music front, things have only gotten better since then. On the movie front, it seems we have a few respectable pieces coming out finally (Left Behind was quality, some new ones in production now). Christian games? The last 'christian' game I played was by n'lightning, and Um, I didn't get too far before I tossed it and uninstalled it. I hate to say that about a group who is trying to combine service with their passion/career, but that particular title (something about a paladin) was just awful.
As for ideas that apply christian themes and values to games, the one that sticks out to me is the 'christ-figure' storyline (I die in your place, etc). Even mainstream media uses this one with major success. Another way to discuss christian elements is to take the route of Age of Empires - a historical look at cultures and beliefs. An RTS based on colonial america, enticing persecuted christians to come to your colony etc... oh well, just some thoughts

And for heavens sake, make sure the 'bad' god has white skin, otherwise the ACLU will be knocking at your door... *sigh*
Good luck.
