I have just finished setting up a demo wireless LAN in my school computer lab. Here is the setup: Computer A: A wireless adapter installed Computer B: A wireless router installed - hardwired connection to PC B - cable internet modem plugs in here All hardware is by Linksys. Both operating systems are Windows 2000 Pro. The cable comes in to the modem near B, then into the router. The router then connects to the non-wireless NIC of B. B is supposed to connect wirelessly to A, the only wireless-able PC, with an adapter. So is this an ad hoc network, or an infrastructure network? My connection on PC B is good. I am on the internet, and everything seems fine. I cannot, however, connect to PC A. According to PC A, I am "connected" to the network that I named. I can''t, though, seem to do anything with it, and it is not working as I thought. The instructions talk about XP and using ZeroConnect or something. I don''t have XP or that software, as far as I know. I don''t know how to access B from A. I am also told that in B or A, when I access the TCP/IP settings of the LAN, and click on obtain IP automatically, a new window should come up. I do not get a new window. I don''t know what software method to use, or how, to access and connect the network. Could someone tell me what I need to do?

on your hardwired system do this:

open a command prompt and type:

ipconfig /release

then

ipconfig /renew all

If you can't renew than the router isn't supplying you with an IP from the DHCP pool.

Also do you only have one network card in this PC or two? If you are shown connected yet you can't access the internet.. it is common if you have 2 NICs because you need a bridge.

EDIT: Oh yeah

An Ad Hoc network is 2 wireless devices connecting to each other without the router (ie if you had 2 systems with wireless cards)

An Infrastructure is if computer A connects to computer B through the router.
