I'd be very afraid to meet any gamedev members. Particularly those who don't exist.

How about it? I''d love to be able to meet with other GDNet people in my area, and I''m sure I''m not the only one. Perhaps there should be some GDNet Meetup thingo organized?
An all meat dating service. That sounds like loads of fun!

What might be more effective would be if people enrolled in their local IGDA chapters, and met up at the semi-regular meetings that they arrange.
That way you''d not only be meeting people in your area, but many of them would work for game companies, and any gdnetters would be the ones dedicated enough to game development that they actually pay the IDGA entry fee.

Like yourself? Or members in Tiberia?
Ih, I''m not a Tiberian anymore.

Our IGDA chapter closed it looks like. They havent had a meeting in like a year. :''(
Perhaps you should contact them and try and start it up again? Being secretary for a chapter could look pretty damn sweet on a CV when you get a job in the industry...

I probably should, but I spend most of my time working on demos trying to get them up to snuff so I can apply here (in this area).

Awesome! Hmm they haven''t updated the page yet. I wonder if it''ll still be in the Ericcson auditorium...

there is also ACM. I''m the president for my campuses chapter this year. ACM runs many Special Intrest Groups, including SIGGRAPH (Special Intrest Group for Graphics), which holds a conference every year, usually in San Fransico, and SIGART for AI.
I mention ACM because you don''t necessarily need a chapter to join (it seems people are having trouble finding IGDA chapters. I''m not certain if I have one in my area either).
Honors students could join Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the oldest honors society for computing technology in the world. I have a friend that is a member of the 2600 club... maybe that could be an option.
But yeah, I''d be up to having a large meet. GDNetCon... hmm. We would need some speakers, some seminars. These things aren''t very hard to run. It could be a lot of fun.
