Ok I must admit I am not really too keen on hardware, as many of you saw when i was putting together a computer that was completly in compatible. I know what most things are like HT and PCi and shit, but I I am stuck on the AGP slot. I *think* that''s for the video card right? So since I want the ATI Radeon 9800 it has an AGP of 1x/4x/8x does that mean I would need a mobo with either of those AGP slots?

AGP stands for Advanced Graphical Port (or some crap like that). I motherboard that has an 8x AGP port can hold a 4x card, but a 4x board won''t run an 8x card.

I think the mobo can still run the 8x card but only in 4x mode.

About the computer you''re buying, remember to get a heatsink/fan rated for your processor. If it''s retail, it comes with a fan (AMD processors do anyway).

Just an important note since you can not run any modern processor without an HSF.

Quoted for correctness.

The major AGP settings are:
-AGP Version
-Multiplier
-Sideband Addressing
-Fastwrites
-Request Queue Depth

If your motherboard supports them, but your card doesn''t, you will simply run in the best mode your card supports. If your card supports them, but your motherboard doesn''t, you will simply run in the best mode your motherboard supports.

Just cuz you sound like you know what you''re talking about...

What benefits do fastwrites, sideband addressing, and the others provide? What versions of AGP are they available in?
