Watch the video linked here. US Apache gunship using a 30mm cannon on people suspected of being Iraqi insurgents. The disgusting part is that at the very end, a guy wounded and crawling around on the ground is utterly decimated by the cannon. My country is disgusting. Shooting the fuck out of someone who is wounded and poses no threat... unbelievable.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My signature is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My signature, without me, is useless. Without my signature, I am useless.

I wonder how many of you whacko's will applaud this brazen murder. I bet I know who.

Whacko here, how are you doing ?

I suppose you just watched the video and didnt bother reading the other link to the news page ?
http://more.abcnews.go.com/sections/wnt/US/apache_video_040109.html

It was right below the link for the video, I guess you blinked and missed it.

Let me quote it for you:
quote:

Anthony Cordesman, an ABCNEWS defense consultant who also viewed the tape, said the Apache pilots would have had a much clearer picture of the scene than what was recorded on the videotape. He also said they would have had intelligence about the identity of the men in the vehicles. "They're not getting a sort of blurred picture. They have a combination of intelligence and much better imagery than we can see."

Another quote:
quote:

Army officials acknowledged that the 30 mm cannons used by the Apache gunners were far bigger than what was needed to kill the men, but said it is the smallest weapon the Apaches have.

I am sure the US Military is listening to you Gandalf, and next time they will land the Apache, walk over to the terrorists, ask them if they really are terrorists, and then nicely ask them to stop killing people.

Would you preferred he bled out? It wouldn't have been prettier. 30mm slugs leave nasty holes in walls and engine blocks, imagine the holes they leave in people.

Or are you the sort of person who'd hit a deer and leave it there to jitter and shake?

> My country is disgusting.

Your patented kneejerk reaction to anything you see online absolutely disgusts me.

The guy was probably going to die anyway, they just did him a really big favor of finishing him off.

He could have been left there to slowly die in his own blood.

No threat? He's the freaking enemy. If he lives that means he's living to fight another day.

Your ignorance to war is sickening, Mithrandir. This isn't a perfect world we live in. War happens and when it does people die, gruesomely.

Maybe one day you'll come out of your delusional cloud and realize this.

I know we're supposed to watch our language on these boards or get on probation, but this thinking serious pisses me off. Who the hell do you think you are to judge the actions of these soldiers?

On Sunday I had to go to a showing for a soldier in my unit, Spc Fritz, who had an RPG, a fucking RPG, fired at the fuel truck he was filling up right as he was topping it off. He sustained 3rd degree burns over 90% of his body and it took him 3 days to die.

You say we shouldn't use 30mm cannons to take these guys out when they can fire RPGs at unarmed US soldiers?

Fuck you.

If he flipped out over this video, don''t ANYONE show him the video from Afgahinstan taken from an AC-130. A giant gun platform.

If 30mm was overkill, then an artillery shell aimed straight at some raghead (who subsequently was ripped to pieces, the footage of limbs flying and bouncing made very easily visible because of the infrared camera it was shot with) would be akin to using a flamethrower to cook a hotdog.

The video is a bit moving, but since I''m just me and not a soldier, I have no idea what the circumstances were in that video. Thus it would be unfair for me to make any assumptions or speculations.

The power of that gun is pretty insane. It''s shocking how effortlessly it kills. But as for how shocking the context of the video is and who the three men are? Who am I to say? Who are you to say?

Have you ever heard of overkill? I think that is what Mith is trying to point out.

I'd also like to comment on this as well. My other post comments on your dismissing the actions as being unwarranted. But you seem to think war is supposed to be nice and clean, or something. Do you realize how many people there are involved in a war, how many wars there have been, and how many more disgusting things than this have happened, from any side of the battle?

America is disgusting because, in this war, in this video, three particular men had to be taken out? Apache or not, what's the difference between that and sniping someone from afar? Or simply shooting the enemy a few feet away from you in the middle of a battlefield? Death is death.

As for killing the man after seriously wounding him? Their intent was obviously not to slightly "incapacitate" the men. They were taken out for a reason. This is war. Do you think an Iraqi insurgent would spray an American soldier down with his gun for a bit and then walk away without knowing he was dead?

Do you honestly think American soldiers are the only ones using some kind of force here? Give me a break, open your eyes.

Just hope you don''t piss them off too much, Mith.

Being serious though, what the hell did you expect? For the goddamn apache helicopter to shoot silly string and airdrop slices of cake?

Mith I am glad that you are disgusted with your country. I DO wish that you would stop stupidly complaining about it.

Maybe those guys were plumbers, the 4-5 ft cylinder was just a water pipe. They need water in the desert, right?

OK that doesn''t make sense because it was night.

I know! They were astronomers! The cylinder is their telescope! No wait, astronomers would never toss the scope on the ground.

Hmmm... I bet they were going to attach a drill bit to the pipe and try to find some oil. Maybe they ran out of gas. Maybe that''s just how Iraqi folks get gas at night when the station is closed... just drill some at the side of the road. That''s what I would do.

OK that explains it... some poor defensless guys probably driving home late from the bar ran out of gas.

Forget about the other guys who have been ambushing with RPGs and bombs and fireweapons, there guys were DIFFERENT. They just needed to drill for some more gas to get home after a night of drinking and bellydancers.

jee, let me think of a few reasons..

a.) they were ordered to
b.) that was their original objective to begin with?
c.) this is war, not playground dodgeball
d.) in war, when you''re supposed to kill someone, you don''t let them off the hook when they were just injured heavily
e.) the guy was ripped apart anyway by it. it''d be more disgusting to leave him their in agonizing pain bleeding to death.

You''re either eight years old or European. Oops, it says you''re from Ontario, Canada. That narrows it down a bit.

It''s war, sweetheart, and those were 30mm slugs they were shooting. You saw how the dirt kicked up, you''d think those were explosive bullets or something. That guy was rolling around because that''s about all he could do.

It makes you think though. That guy might have made it out okay if he had just hid towards the back of the truck, behind the wheels and NOT towards the front of the truck and NOT fallen over. The gunner was just going to give the trucks a love tap to make sure noone was going to use them, but instead he had to half-assedly hose them and hope overpenetration got that last guy.

Another thing is, we''re all assuming he was wounded. Maybe he was just stunned to hell by the noise and dust flying. Then he gets back up and lives another day to go plant another bomb that kill innocent civilians. GG.

It''s so easy to rationalize murder, isn''t it?
