I cannot work out these stats when running my MeshView app. Could some one help me please? If I have the app running on its own everything is fine, but say if I open My Documents the system starts to jitter and lags something shocking? Below are the results of the Process Watch I did which I do not understand P4 Mobile 2.2 GHZ 640 RAM 32MB NVidia card Only MeshView CPU Usage 6 - 10% Totals: Handles 6607 (but rises by 1 with each refresh) Threads 403 (but slowly drops) Processess 41 Physical Memory: Total 654832 Available 458400 (drops slowly) System Cache 182292 Commit Charge Total 201692 Limit 1619084 Peak 202700 Kernal: Total 49352 Paged 41676 Non Paged 7680 Open My Docs while MeshView runs Massive lag CPU Usage 100% all the time? Totals: Handles 6607 Threads 403 (but slowly drops) Processess 41 Physical Memory: Total 654832 Available 458400 (drops slowly) System Cache 182292 Commit Charge Total 203128 Limit 1619084 Peak 202700 Kernal: Total 49352 Paged 41676 Non Paged 7728 I have done the same test on my PC at work and the results are relative except the mouse does not lag? Also, if I do not have my app running then opening My Documents on either machine has liitle or no effect of the CPU usage? Anyone know whats going on? I do not know how to interpret these figures?

Maybe it has to do with how your app handles being in the background. Perhaps you do something like go into an infinite loop until the app returns to the foreground. Does the same problem happen if your Meshviewer app is in the foreground?

If MeshView has the focus then there is no lag?

I have tried the sample in the SDK with the plane flying round the teapot and although no lag occurs the cpu usage is 100% when the sample has the focus and 5% whne My Documents has it.

I have followed the examples I have seen to date which it to stay in a loop until circumstance dictate to drop out. Whilst in the loop the two lines executed are Render() and Application.DoEvents.

I have so other code in my Render proc but cannot see why my app is working in this manner?

Any advice from the experts is most welcome

This may well have something to do with it.

I have discovered that the USB host controller and graphics card both share IRQ7. I happen to be using a USB mouse.

I have asked the advise of my laptop supplier about it.
