Hi, i just had an idea about what to do with old topics. What about add some functionality to the forum so that when an topic is say 2 weeks old, the topic gets closed (locked). But make it such, that it is still possible to reply to the topic. However when there is made a new reply to this topic the forum creates a new topic. It could use the original topic's title for the new topic and add "[ Reopened ]" to it. In this new topic it would then add the link to the original topic on the top of the page. The user's post would go just below that. This way it is very clear what posts are new, and people can always click the linked (original) topic if they want to read back. I realize that some people allready practice this (good) habit. (create a new topic, link to old topic that is relevant to it) But it could be usefull if the forum did this automatically. I think this could be a nice feature. Just an idea Edit: typo [edited by - Direct4D on January 21, 2004 8:43:27 AM]

That''s a pretty nifty idea. The "locking threads once they''re X days old with no replies" thing is actually already in the new forum software (I believe it''s known as ''retiring'' a thread), but the thing about automatically linking to the old thread is a good one.
