There is this theatre about 20 miles away I keep hearing about and I wanted to go check it out. I was kinda bored, and it was 1:30am, so I decided to go check this place out, find out where it is. My sisters here me warming up my car, and ask where I''m going, and I say to check out the Uptown Palladium 12. Oh no, don''t go out there this time of night, the cops out there don''t like black people. What? What kind of crap is that? Then they said black people out there get pulled over for no reason and get jailed and have to pay to get out of the holding center. For just driving around? Damn, thats complete BS, I can''t even be adventurous and drive my car to see places I''ve never seen before. Yeah, I probably decided to go at a bad time, but still, thats just like saying its ok for other kinds of people to drive around at night, but blacks can''t. I don''t know if they were feeding me BS, or if the cops out there have some serious problems.

My guess is that a lot of it is overblown. Probably one black person got pulled over, and word spread. That being said, there ARE racist cops out there, and it''s definetly a possibility.

Honestly I think it depends on the area, some of the cops will notice more trouble in the area by a certain group and they''ll jump to conclusions instead of scoping out the situation first. I can honestly say that some cops do go after stuff like that, but it''s only in specific areas, and usually where the crime is high.

Thats really messed up. I''m going to check it out in the morning though. Hopefully I don''t get busted for "driving while black".

When I was in high school this black kid in my government class had a fairly nice car and he said that a cop pulled him over just make sure that he owned it.

Thats really screwed up, but its sorta funny that a cop would be that stupid.

I''ve had friends tell me stories of getting pulled over for no reason too. In some places judges, lawyers and even state senators get pulled over for no reason other than the fact that they were black in an area where few black people venture and so they appeared "suspicious".

Here''s a story that has little to do with "DWB", but is just as disturbing: Old South Lingers in a Legal Lynching. And here''s another take on it: The Night That Justice Got Mugged in Georgia.

If people of a certain color do commit more crimes (in %), then why would it not make sense to stop them more often?

Maybe there should be a race-crime quota. Example:

% of white people stealing a car: 60%
% of black people stealing a car: 20%
% of asian people stealing a car: 20%

Therefore, a white person would get pulled over 3 times as often as a black or an asian.

Worth a thought.

You don''t do that for the same reason you don''t execute people. The few innocents inconvenienced or worse (or put to death) far outweigh the criminals that are convicted. Oh wait... we do have the death penalty.

Anything''s possible then.

It's one thing to get pulled over for no reason, but entirely a different one if you are arrested for no reason. Truthfully cops will be more likley to pull over people who are young rather than old and tend to pull over more hispanics, and african americans over the general cuacasian person. It is more likely that a cop pulled over an african american kid for no reason and then found a good reason for aresting him/her, such as that joint in the ashtray next to them. Still cops are just people so some of them can be jerks and do immorial and even illegal things. I would say if you do get pulled over stay cool and caulm, youhave no reason to act stupid really. I once got stoped by a cop when I was on my bike and I got really worried that I was in trouble and it turned out he was look for somone and wwanted to know if I had seen them. Yep.

How do more people get inconvenienced by racial profiling? It''s not that more people are stopped, it''s just that more people of a certain group (that are more likely to be guilty, in my previous example, white people) are stopped. In fact, racial profiling would guarantee that equal amounts of innocent people (in %) of white, black and asian (in the example) would get inconvenienced.

say a black man walks into a store and robs it.

the clerk is horrified and scared to death.

the next day another black man walks into the same store with the same clerk and robs it.

the clerk is even more scared this time.

say the next day another black man comes in and robs the same store with the same clerk

the clerk just doesnt know what to do.

so one evening, the store is about to close in 10 or 15 minutes. The clerk is watching and he sees a black man drive up... he immediately rushes to the front and locks the door out of fear and puts up the "closed" sign.

My point here is that it is human nature to judge a person''s possible motives based upon their appearance and their likeness to other certain peoples.

Its racial profiling and I agree it is unfair at times... but it happens to EVERYONE (white/black/hispanic/asian/indian..etc), it will keep happening, and it will never stop. Get over it.

It''s completely unfair. However, I do recall the NYPost or Times reporting on the statistics of car thefts and what not. I believe "blacks" were on the highest, and also associated with the most assault-related robberies.

I can understand normal citizens having somewhat of a biased fear, at least in some areas late at night.. but I do think it''s pretty ridiculous for a cop to pull people over just because of their "suspicious" race. It''s a crappy situation, it stinks, but it''s human nature I suppose.

Ummm...Its called probable cause. Why should someone get pulled over because of their color??? Just because one race does it more than another, doesn''t mean all memebers of that race should be pulled over, does it?

Yeah, it does suck.

There is one cop in my town who is black and probably around 30 years old. He pulls over every single white kid in a sports car and tells them they were doing 50 down the road to give them a ticket. I''ve been pulled over multiple times, and all my friends who have sports cars as well. None of us ever get a ticket. We tell the dude "I don''t see how it was possible to get to 50 MPH with our break lights on between this road and this road (1/2 a city block where he hangs out), its just too short a distance to get that fast." He usually respnods "Are you arguing with me!?!?!?!?" and we say "No." and he usually says "Ok, this is your warning."

This black cop must think all white kids in sports cars are lead foots...

I don''t really mind... I don''t do the crime, and I don''t do any time... It takes usually about 3 minutes to get pulled over, no big deal.

I doubt that has anything to do with the fact that you''re white and instead has to do with the fact that you''re a teenage male in a sports car.

I finally drove out to that part of town where supposedly black folks are mistreated by police officers. It''s a nice area, clean environment, cool stores, and two movie theatres on the same street. Its a small downtown area, and I didn''t get half a mile before seeing 3 police cars. There was alot of traffic and people walking around, I didn''t exactly know where I was going, and the police presence made me uncomfortable. So, instead of checking out the theatre I just went back home. I don''t think I''ve ever seen so many Mercedes, Jaguars, and BMW''s in my life.

wtf? Go back right now, you''re not doing anything wrong, don''t take that shit. What state do you live in?

It seems your parrents are maybe a little paranoid, I mean racism is still around, but you''re not going to be arrested because you''re black, are you? And if you are, go anyways. Not doing what you want because of your color is the worste thing I think you could do.
